If you mean the announced Phoenix-powered Cyclops, try him for the character concept—but there is not yet enough official gameplay information to recommend him over another fighter on strength or ease. The announcement is for Phoenix Cyclops, Scott Summers as depicted with the Phoenix Force in Avengers vs. X-Men; it does not confirm separate Phoenix and Cyclops character-select options.
Is this a Phoenix-versus-Cyclops matchup?
Not on the evidence currently established by the official announcements. PlayStation revealed Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional Year 1 character, describing him as an interpretation of Scott Summers inspired by his Phoenix Five incarnation in Avengers vs. X-Men. The announcement says he uses optic blasts and hand-to-hand abilities alongside the Phoenix Force, but does not establish a separate playable Phoenix entry or explain how those abilities work in matches. PlayStation’s Phoenix Cyclops announcement says more gameplay information would come later.

So, if by “Phoenix vs. Cyclops” you mean two separate fighters, first check the current in-game roster. The official game page lists a 20-character launch roster, while the announcement establishes Phoenix Cyclops as post-launch content; the cited sources do not establish a separate Phoenix roster entry.

If the Phoenix Five version of Scott Summers is what interests you, Phoenix Cyclops is the announced character to watch for. The published information supports that character-fantasy recommendation, not a claim about his optimal range, difficulty, damage, matchup strengths, or tier placement.

There is not enough published move information to say whether Phoenix Cyclops is easier to learn, stronger, or better suited to a particular playstyle. When his move guide or reliable gameplay evidence is available, assess his preferred range, core attack options, execution demands, and fit with your team rather than relying on the Phoenix name alone.
How to choose a character in a four-fighter game
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is built around teams of four, but you do not necessarily have to master the whole team equally. Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said that players “only need to master one character in order to play the game,” while teammates can be called for support. That makes it reasonable to start with the character you most want to learn, then consider team fit as you get comfortable. For a grounded comparison once both characters are confirmed in your build, look at:
- Range and attack options: Which fighter’s actual tools feel natural at the distances you prefer?
- Execution: Can you perform the character’s important actions reliably with your chosen input method?
- Team fit: Do the character’s support calls and your other picks work well for the way you want to play?
- Comfort: Do you enjoy practicing that character enough to keep learning?
These are useful decision criteria, not confirmed ratings for Phoenix Cyclops. The available announcement does not provide enough detail to score him on them.

Inputs and controls: you can choose what feels comfortable
The official game page describes both traditional and quick inputs, adjustable controls, and easy chain combos. You do not have to assume that choosing a character means committing to complex traditional inputs. On PS5, the FAQ also says PS5-compatible arcade sticks and leverless controllers can be used, and button inputs can be customized. PlayStation’s game page lists MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as launched on August 6, 2026, in the US and most listed regions, with August 7 launch dates for Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea. The page describes the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass as post-launch content, including four characters and one stage. The Phoenix Cyclops announcement named him the first additional Year 1 character and said he was coming in Fall 2026, without a specific release day.
