To get notified when a Steam wishlist game goes on sale, add it to your Wishlist and enable the email or mobile notifications you want in Steam’s notification settings. Steam says it can alert you about Daily Deals, Midweek Deals and Weekend Deals; the exact settings labels may vary, so confirm them in your current Steam account interface.
Turn on notifications for wishlist sales

Open the game’s Steam store page and add it to your Wishlist if it is not already there.

Open Steam’s notification or email preference settings while signed in, and look for the Wishlist notification controls. Steam’s public feature page confirms the controls but does not specify a current click-by-click path, so use the labels shown in your client or account settings.

Choose the delivery method you want: email, Steam mobile app notifications, or both if the available controls allow it.

If Steam offers category-specific controls, select the Wishlist categories whose sale alerts you want. Steam describes customization by Wishlist category, but its public announcement does not document the current settings flow.
Steam’s notification page says it will notify you by email or through its mobile app when games on your Wishlist are on sale as a Daily Deal, Midweek Deal or Weekend Deal. The same page says you can opt out of email or turn off mobile notifications.

Steam does not establish that one channel is faster or more reliable than the other. Pick based on where you prefer to receive alerts, and check that channel’s settings.

Steam’s current public notification page names Daily Deals, Midweek Deals and Weekend Deals. A Valve announcement dated March 15, 2016 also described email alerts for Weeklong Deals and custom-configured developer discounts, as well as the three deal types above. That announcement is historical; it does not establish that every category or preference control remains unchanged today.

Steam’s Wishlist categories announcement describes category-specific notification customization and alerts when a demo is released for a wishlisted game. Check the current interface for which options are available to your account.
If a sale notification does not arrive

Confirm the game is still on your Wishlist.

For email, check Steam’s email preferences and look in spam, junk or other filtered folders.

For phone alerts, check notification permissions for the Steam app on your device, then review the app’s notification settings.

Revisit Wishlist notification preferences and make sure the relevant channel or category has not been opted out.
