To find out what is actually changing, check the game’s current official notices and verify updates, fixes, customer support, online services, account and save continuity, and platform access separately. Treat future plans as plans—not completed handoffs—and label anything the publisher has not confirmed as unconfirmed.
What “still supported” means
Support is not a single on/off switch. A game might keep receiving updates while its support contacts change, or remain playable after an account-linked feature is removed. Check each part of the service independently:
- Content and fixes: Are new content updates and bug fixes continuing? Is there a stated schedule or commitment?
- Player support: Who handles help requests now, and have the support site, channels, or policies changed?
- Online services: Are servers and online features staying available? Can the game still be played offline if they end?
- Accounts and data: Do players need to activate a new account or transfer saves, currency, entitlements, or other data?
- Platform access: Can existing owners still launch the game, and is it still available through each platform’s store?
A game can continue in some of these areas while another changes or ends. Avoid reducing the answer to “supported” or “unsupported” until you have checked the relevant dimensions.
How to verify a support transition
- Identify what changed. Separate studio ownership from the game’s developer, publisher, live-operations operator, and customer-support provider. A studio may be acquired without an immediate change to the game’s publisher or operator; those roles can also change without the studio being sold.
- Check the game’s official channels. Start with its news page, transition FAQ, support pages, and dated patch notes. Follow any links to the new publisher or operator’s official channels. A platform-holder notice can clarify store access or server closures, but may not explain plans for future content.
- Look for specifics in each support area. Find explicit statements about updates, bug fixes, support contacts, servers, online features, accounts, saves, and platform access. Do not assume that a commitment in one area covers the others.
- Check dates and required actions. Look for a migration window, account activation, new terms, maintenance downtime, expiring currency or entitlements, opt-out deadlines, or a required reinstall. Note what players must do and when.
- Record what is confirmed and what is pending. A dated FAQ or roadmap documents what the publisher said at that time; future plans can change. If an official notice says a detail is still to be confirmed—or provides no current answer—describe that point as unconfirmed.
Ownership news is not a shutdown notice
The change in ownership alone does not establish what will happen to any particular game. In its January 31, 2022 announcement of the Bungie acquisition, Sony Interactive Entertainment said Bungie would “continue to operate independently, maintaining the ability to self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play.” That was Sony’s stated plan at the time, not a current guarantee about every Bungie game. The useful lesson is to look for a game-specific service announcement rather than infer its future from a corporate deal.

Examples of what official notices can—and cannot—tell you
Throne and Liberty: a planned publisher handoff
Amazon Game Studios’ FAQ, published August 12, 2026, says publishing responsibility for the western service is planned to transition to developer NC, operating through FirstSpark Games, in Q4 2026. It says regular content updates and bug fixes will continue through the handoff, although a major update may be held until afterward. The FAQ also describes changes to the publisher, customer-support provider, support channels and policies, live-operations team, and terms, as well as player-data transfer and account activation. It does not confirm every transition detail, including possible downtime. Because the date is a plan, do not describe the transfer as completed without a newer official confirmation. Read the Throne and Liberty transition FAQ.
Hi-Fi RUSH: access continues while a feature changes
Bethesda Support’s FAQ says publishing has transitioned to KRAFTON and directs players with issues to KRAFTON Support. It says players retain access on the platform where they own the game and that save data and achievements are unaffected. It also says Bethesda.net connectivity in the game has been deactivated. This is why it is worth checking account-linked features separately from game access and saved progress. Read Bethesda Support’s Hi-Fi RUSH FAQ.

Lost Ark: a future transition with a separate operator change
Amazon Game Studios’ announcement says the western service transition to Smilegate is planned for early 2027. It states that updates and operations will continue until then, Smilegate will manage future content, and the support provider and community channels will change. Check the announcement for its current schedule before saying that the handoff has happened. Read the Lost Ark service-transition announcement.
Platform service notices: online loss can affect playability
PlayStation’s service notice distinguishes games that lose online features but retain offline play from GUNS UP!, which the notice says would become unplayable because it requires an online connection. A title’s store presence or ownership status does not, by itself, tell you whether its online service is available or whether the game remains playable offline. Check the notice for the relevant platform and region. Read PlayStation’s online-service notice.

SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada: transfer procedures and deadlines
Bandai Namco’s FAQ dated September 28, 2026 describes a move to an offline-exclusive version and specifies procedures players must complete during the transfer period to retain online save data in that version. It also gives a 150-day period to use specified paid SYN COINS after initial activation. Although this is not an ownership-change example, it illustrates why players should read the steps and deadlines in a service-transition notice instead of assuming saves or currency will carry over automatically. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to report the result clearly
When checking a particular game, give the status by category and attach the date and source to time-sensitive claims. For example, distinguish a confirmed end to an account feature from a still-planned publisher transition, or an announced commitment to fixes from an unanswered question about downtime. If a notice is old, says a detail is pending, or has no current official answer, say so; do not treat silence as proof of either continued support or a shutdown.
