To find out whether yours still works, identify the promotion’s target game, region, dates and conditions, then try the code through that game’s Mystery Gift redemption flow. A successful claim confirms it was redeemable for that save at that time; a rejection needs troubleshooting before you can conclude the code expired.
Start with the code’s original promotion
A Mewtwo code’s name alone does not establish which game it is for or when it can be redeemed. Check the printed code card, retailer handout or original promotion announcement. Note the target game, applicable region, campaign dates and any eligibility or redemption limits. Partner promotion dates, locations and participating retailers can vary by region and date, and supplies may be limited (Pokémon Support).

Try the code in the correct game
Use the Mystery Gift code or password option in the game named by the promotion. Pokémon Support’s instructions for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are to select Mystery Gift, choose the code/password redemption option, connect to the internet, enter the code and save after the gift arrives (Pokémon Support). These steps are specific to Sword and Shield; follow the instructions for your target game if it is different.
If the game accepts the code and delivers the gift, the code was redeemable for that save at that time. That is the practical test; the cited support guidance does not provide a universal public checker for every Mewtwo code.

If the game rejects the code
Check the likely causes in this order. A rejection by itself does not prove the code has expired.
- Re-enter the code carefully. Check each character against the original card or announcement.
- Confirm the target game and region. Make sure you are using the code in the title and region covered by the promotion.
- Check the campaign dates. Compare the redemption attempt date with the promotion’s stated start and end dates.
- Check whether it was already claimed. Some code systems do not allow a used code to be redeemed again. Pokémon HOME’s official instructions, for example, say a code used to claim a gift cannot be reused and each gift can be received only once per save file (Pokémon Support). This is an example for Pokémon HOME, not proof of the rule for every game or Mewtwo promotion.
- Look for eligibility or service restrictions. Account or save limits, and temporary maintenance, can affect some code systems. Pokémon Sleep’s FAQ describes those possibilities for its own serial-code system; its error guidance should not be treated as a diagnosis for another game (Pokémon Support).
The exact campaign terms and the target game’s error message are the relevant evidence. If the code appears to meet its terms but still fails, contact that game’s support channel with the error message and promotion details. Do not share a code publicly if it may still be claimable.

Where to check for Mewtwo distributions
Pokémon says distribution events are announced on pokemon.com when information becomes available, and that it cannot answer questions about unannounced events or possible re-releases (Pokémon Support). For partner promotions, it recommends checking Pokémon news, newsletters, social media, local retailers and in-game news; availability and dates may vary (Pokémon Support).
The official information cited here does not identify a particular currently redeemable Mewtwo code or give a Mewtwo-specific expiration date. Use the original promotion’s terms rather than assuming that an old code is still valid—or that every rejected attempt means it has expired.
