First check which Pokémon game you’re playing: Pokémon Legends: Z-A gives the Mewtwo reward through Mystery Gift > Get via Internet, not by entering a Mewtwo code. The gift is Mewtwonite X and Y; after completing the main story, you can start an extra side mission to battle and add Mewtwo to your team. If you have a code for another game or promotion, its status can’t be determined without the code’s source, game, and validity dates.
Check whether your game uses a Mewtwo code
“Mewtwo code” can refer to different rewards—or to a mistaken description of a different event. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the official Mewtwo reward is claimed over the internet, not by entering a Mewtwo password. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the historical password GETY0URMEW was for Mew, not Mewtwo.

Claim the Mewtwo reward in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
- Use a Switch or Switch 2 profile linked to a Nintendo Account, and connect the console to the internet. The Mystery Gift feature becomes available after approximately one hour of play. The Pokémon Company’s instructions do not state a distribution end date.
- Open Mystery Gift and select Get via Internet. This claims Mewtwonite X and Y; it does not directly deliver Mewtwo.
- Check the Mega Stones pocket to confirm the stones arrived.
- Complete the main story, then go to Lysandre Café and start the extra Mewtwo side mission. Beating the mission adds Mewtwo to your team.
Redeem a code for a different Scarlet or Violet event
If the code belongs to a different Scarlet or Violet promotion, use the code option in that game rather than the internet-claim route for Legends: Z-A.
- Open Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Code/Password.
- Enter the code exactly as issued, then check Mystery Gifts to review gifts you have already received.
- Save after receiving a gift. Nintendo’s Scarlet and Violet Mystery Gift instructions cover this redemption path.
If the code still won’t redeem
There is no universal cause for an unspecified “Mewtwo code” error. Before treating it as expired, used, mistyped, or ineligible, match the details to the promotion that issued it.

- Write down the exact game title and the complete error message.
- Check where the code came from and whether it was issued for that game and reward.
- Look for the promotion’s start and end dates or other terms on the original code card or official event page.
- For a Scarlet or Violet download code, use the game’s Mystery Gift code option; for the Legends: Z-A Mewtwo reward, use Get via Internet instead.
- If the game, code source, dates, and redemption method match but the error remains, contact the promotion issuer’s official support channel with those details.
Nintendo’s Pokémon Series Mystery Gift support index links to game-specific instructions. The code and error details are needed to determine whether a separate promotion code is invalid or simply being used in the wrong game or menu.
