What happened at Bit Reactor
GameDeveloper reported on September 1, 2026, that Bit Reactor confirmed it had temporarily furloughed employees without pay before the game’s launch. The studio’s stated concern was the game’s performance at launch; that is the reported rationale, not an independently established financial cause. GameDeveloper’s report attributed the decision to Bit Reactor.
Shacknews reported that a Bit Reactor spokesperson said the studio hoped to bring affected workers back and restore their pay. That was an intention, not confirmation that employees were reinstated. The available reports do not establish whether, or how many, workers returned. Shacknews’ September 1 report also said the decision was made by Bit Reactor, rather than ordered by publisher EA or Lucasfilm’s parent company, Disney.
How many developers were affected?
GameDeveloper cited one unnamed source’s estimate that around 80 percent of the team had been furloughed. A second source described the remaining active payroll as a “skeleton crew.” These are attributed descriptions, not an official Bit Reactor headcount; the reporting did not provide a published workforce figure directly measuring the furloughs.

What is Star Wars Zero Company?
Star Wars Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. EA announced it for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with an August 27, 2026 release date. EA’s June 5, 2026 announcement identifies the developer relationship, platforms, and launch date. The reports about furloughs do not establish the game’s sales or commercial reception.
