But Sony has not confirmed that GTA VI will use QSSR. PlayStation lists the game’s planned PS5 release date as November 19, 2026.
What is QSSR on PS5?
Quick Spectral Super Resolution is Sony’s new “performance tier” of AI upscaling for the standard PS5. Developed from Project Amethyst, Sony’s graphics collaboration with AMD, QSSR uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation intended to fit the console’s performance constraints. Sony says it improves image detail and stability; those are Sony’s descriptions, not independent benchmark results. Sony’s QSSR announcement does not report measured performance figures.
Upscaling reconstructs an image at a higher output resolution from a lower-resolution input. Sony describes its existing PS5 Pro technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), as analyzing game images pixel by pixel. QSSR is positioned as a separate, streamlined option for standard PS5, while PSSR remains Sony’s higher-end option for PS5 Pro. Sony has not published comparative test results establishing a quality or frame-rate ranking between them.
Which PS5 games support QSSR?
Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games with QSSR. Both received patches on October 1, 2026, adding QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Sony says it is making the library broadly available to PlayStation developers, but each game’s support depends on its developer choosing to implement it.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The developers have described the image-quality changes in their own games. Insomniac Games’ Mike Fitzgerald said QSSR adds pixel-level clarity and stability in Marvel’s Wolverine; Sucker Punch Productions’ Jasmin Patry said it resolves fine detail with temporal stability in Ghost of Yōtei. These are developer descriptions, not independent measurements.
Will GTA 6 use QSSR?
There is no official confirmation that Grand Theft Auto VI will use QSSR. Sony’s QSSR announcement does not name GTA VI, and PlayStation’s GTA VI announcement does not mention QSSR. A claim that the game will include it at launch should therefore be treated as speculation unless Rockstar or Sony confirms support.

Sony has described other elements of the PS5 experience for GTA VI: DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the console’s high-speed SSD. Sony’s statement that the game will “play best on PS5” is promotional language, not an independent comparison with other platforms.
When is GTA 6 coming to PS5?
PlayStation lists November 19, 2026 as the planned PS5 launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI. The QSSR announcement came on October 1, 2026, so it precedes the scheduled launch by several weeks—but timing alone does not establish that the game will use the upscaler.

Do you need a new PS5 or controller for QSSR?
Sony describes QSSR as an option for standard PS5, and its announcement does not state that owners need new hardware to use it. Game support is added through each title’s implementation; the two initial games received patches adding QSSR as a graphics option. A DualSense controller is not a QSSR requirement. PlayStation lists its features as part of GTA VI’s PS5 experience, but does not say a different controller or console is needed for the upscaler.
