If Novus Inceptio will not launch, keeps crashing, or runs poorly, start by checking the PC against the game’s published requirements, then verify it is using the right GPU and rule out driver, file, and background-software problems. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes: game-specific reports about crashes and performance are mostly historical, and no current universal fix is established. This guide is about Novus Inceptio, McMagic Productions’ PC game—not a separate VR-only game also titled Novus.
First, identify the symptom
Note exactly what happens and when: does the game fail before its main menu, show an error, open to a black or frozen screen, crash to desktop during play, or run at a low or uneven frame rate? Record when the issue began and whether anything changed just beforehand, such as a driver update, a game update, a settings change, or enabling a background utility. That distinction helps narrow the checks below.

Check the published requirements and Windows support
Steam’s listing gives the following configuration requirements. It also warns that specifications may change during Early Access, so these figures are the published listing—not independently validated requirements for every current build.

Steam lists these figures on the game’s store/support page; the listing dates to 2015 and was accessed in 2026. Steam’s own client requirement is separate: the Steam client now requires Windows 10 or later, which can prevent access to Steam even though the game listing names an older minimum OS. If the PC is below the recommended specification but meets the minimum, try lower graphics settings before considering hardware changes. Requirements alone do not show that buying a component will resolve a particular crash or performance problem.
Make sure the game uses the supported GPU
On a laptop or desktop with both integrated graphics and a discrete NVIDIA or AMD GPU, confirm that Windows or the GPU maker’s graphics settings assign the game executable to the discrete GPU. Integrated VGA is not supported according to the Steam listing.
This check is relevant because a developer representative raised accidental use of integrated graphics in a 2018 Steam support discussion. A 2018 developer announcement also described work intended to select NVIDIA graphics instead of integrated graphics. Those are historical reports, not a guarantee that current builds always choose correctly or that GPU selection explains every launch problem.
Update drivers and verify the game files
- Update the graphics driver. Get the current driver for the GPU from its manufacturer. Check other relevant system drivers as well if the problem began after a system change.
- Check DirectX support. The game listing calls for a DirectX 11-compatible GPU. Confirm the graphics hardware supports it; a driver update cannot add that capability to unsupported hardware.
- Verify the installation in Steam. Open Steam Library, right-click Novus Inceptio, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check before launching again.
Drivers, display settings, DirectX 11, 64-bit Windows, and Steam file integrity were among the checks suggested in a developer reply in a 2018 crash thread. They are reasonable troubleshooting checks, not confirmed fixes for every current crash.

Isolate overlays and background utilities
Temporarily close overlays, monitoring tools, overclocking utilities, and resource-heavy background applications, then test the game. Change one category at a time so you can tell whether behavior changes; restore unrelated tools after the test. If you use tuning software, return the GPU or CPU to default settings while testing.
One player in a 2018 Steam discussion reported that crashes stopped after disabling MSI Afterburner. That is a single player report, not evidence that Afterburner, overlays, or overclocking generally cause Novus Inceptio crashes. The developer also suggested checking whether security software might be blocking the game; do not disable protection broadly. If you suspect a block, review the security software’s alerts and use its supported per-app settings.
Test graphics settings and saves without risking data
If performance is poor
Lower graphics settings, apply the change, and restart the game before judging the result. This is a useful test when a PC meets the minimum but not the recommended graphics specification; there are no independent benchmark figures here that establish a particular frame rate or ideal setting.
If a crash seems tied to one save
If the game reaches its menus but fails when loading a particular save, test whether a new save behaves differently. Do not delete, overwrite, or replace the existing save as part of this test. A different result can help distinguish a save-specific problem from one that occurs throughout the game, but it does not by itself identify the cause.

Use the official support contact shown on the Steam listing, or use Steam’s support and community resources. Include:
- The exact error text, or a description of the screen if there is no error.
- When the failure occurs: before launch, at the menu, while loading a save, or during play.
- Your Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, and graphics-driver version.
- Whether overlays, monitoring tools, or tuning utilities were active.
- Which checks you tried and whether any changed the behavior.
Historical game-specific material supports these as sensible checks, but it does not establish the current patch status, a present-day list of known issues, or a universal solution. Avoid registry edits as a general crash fix: an isolated 2018 report concerned stuck autorun controls and does not establish that editing the registry is safe or relevant to launch and performance problems.
