A company merger by itself does not establish that a game was delisted or that existing owners have lost access.
Check the specific release on the store you plan to use
- Write down the exact release. Note the full title, edition, platform, and market. Different editions, add-ons, and platform versions may have separate listings.
- Search the platform’s own store. Open the game’s product page and look for an option to buy it now. A page that still loads is not proof that new purchases are available: Microsoft says delisting makes a product no longer purchasable even though its direct product details page may remain accessible. - Check the market where you intend to play. Availability can differ by region; Microsoft documents delisting from selected markets as well as from all markets. - Repeat for each platform you care about. A listing or access policy on one storefront does not establish the game’s status on another. Check the console, PC store, or other service separately.
If you already own the game, check access separately
Sign in to the account that bought or claimed the game and look in its library. Then consult that platform’s current instructions for downloading and playing it. Purchase availability and access for existing owners are distinct: Epic says games delisted from its store can no longer be purchased there, while people who already own or claimed them keep access in their library. SEGA likewise says its selected delisted games remain available in owners’ libraries. These statements describe those platforms and titles, not a universal guarantee for every service. A library entry is useful evidence that the account can see the game, but check the platform’s download and play conditions before relying on it. In particular, verify any relevant market restrictions, licensed content, or online-service requirements in the store or publisher’s current information.
Look for the publisher’s notice about removals and deadlines
Search the publisher’s official news or support pages for the exact title, edition, platform, and region. Read the notice for what is being removed, where, when, and under what conditions. For example, Ubisoft’s announcement about Rocksmith (2011) specified storefronts for removal of the game and associated DLC and separately addressed unactivated keys. Ask the current publisher if the status or reason is unclear
Use the support contact on the game’s official site or the publisher currently named on its store listing. Ask about the precise release, platform, and market, and whether there is a removal date or any condition affecting existing owners. A merger can change corporate ownership or distribution arrangements, but it does not by itself prove that a specific game was delisted, that all rights transferred, or that existing owners lost access. Licensing, publishing, and technical factors can affect availability; Microsoft notes that digital-goods availability may vary for these and other reasons. Record what you find for each platform
If you are comparing editions or storefronts, keep the findings separate so that one result does not get mistaken for another:
- Can a new customer buy this exact release?
- Can an existing owner see it in the account library, download it, and launch it?
- Does availability differ in the relevant market?
- Does the release depend on licensed content or online services?
- Has the publisher announced a removal date or restrictions on unused keys?
Store listings and publisher notices can change. Recheck the official store and the publisher’s current notice when making a purchase or relying on continued access.
