There is no verified Boltgun 2 performance winner yet. As of October 7, 2026, the game is still scheduled to launch on Steam on October 14, and the cited sources do not establish a Steam Deck rating or measured performance on either device. The practical choice today is portability with Steam Deck versus living-room play with Steam Machine—not a proven frame-rate comparison.
Will Boltgun 2 run on Steam Deck?
It is not yet established by the available official information. Boltgun 2 is announced for Steam, but its official announcements do not give a Steam Deck compatibility rating or performance result. A SteamDB listing identifies the prerelease game’s supported system as Windows, but that third-party listing is not Valve’s Deck rating system and does not prove that the game cannot run on Deck: SteamDB’s Boltgun 2 listing.
The full game is scheduled for release on October 14, 2026, according to the official Boltgun 2 Steam announcements. A free demo is available ahead of launch; the developers recommend trying it to get a sense of the full game. The cited announcement does not establish a Deck-specific rating or demo performance, so playing the demo on Deck should not be treated as proof of how the final release will perform.
What Valve’s Steam Machine verification does—and does not—tell you
Valve’s 2026 Steam Hardware Talk presentation describes a “Steam Machine Verified” program. It states, “All Deck Verified games are Machine Verified,” and gives “30FPS at 1080p for Verified” as the Machine Verified target. Valve also describes the Machine as having “6x Steam Deck” performance. These are Valve’s general program and hardware statements, not Boltgun 2 benchmarks or a guarantee of the game’s actual frame rate.

The compatibility statement runs in one direction: a game that is Deck Verified is Machine Verified under Valve’s published rule. The presentation does not say that every Machine Verified game is Deck Verified. It also says Machine verification does not test display resolution or legibility. Consequently, the 1080p target should not be read as a promise about how Boltgun 2 will look or run on either device.

Valve’s Steam Deck booklet supports the form-factor distinction: Deck is a handheld device running SteamOS. It does not provide a Boltgun 2 compatibility judgment. The evidence therefore supports choosing based on where you want to play, while leaving game-specific performance unresolved.

Should you buy a Steam Deck or wait for Steam Machine?
Choose Steam Deck if portability is the deciding factor
Deck is the evidenced handheld option. For Boltgun 2 specifically, wait for a Valve compatibility rating and credible final-game testing before assuming a particular frame rate, battery life, or control experience. Valve’s rule means a future Deck Verified rating would also carry Machine Verified status, but it does not establish the game’s rating in advance.
Consider Steam Machine if you want a living-room setup
Valve’s published verification criteria provide a general compatibility target, but they do not show how Boltgun 2 performs. Final Steam Machine price and retail availability, along with the game’s Machine rating, are not established here. Treat it as a future option rather than a confirmed performance upgrade for this particular game.

Use the demo as an early check, not a final verdict
The developers’ August 27 announcement invites players to try the free demo ahead of launch: official Steam announcement. Its existence is useful for getting an early feel for the game, but the cited source does not report how the demo runs on Deck, and demo behavior alone would not establish final-release performance.

The developers describe two playable characters: Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath. Their September 23, 2026 announcement describes a branching campaign with more than 30 levels and 40+ new enemies across the four Chaos god factions, as well as Death Korps of Krieg allies on some planets. It also lists an automap and expanded accessibility settings, including Invulnerability, Infinite Ammo, Unlock all weapons, and a new Undying Mode. - Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
The game is scheduled for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 14, 2026, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow later, according to the official announcement. That release information confirms the planned Steam launch; it does not imply a Steam Deck rating.
