Roblox Error 277 means the game client failed to connect to a server. It does not, by itself, show whether the cause is your device, Wi-Fi or router, Roblox, or one particular experience. Work through the low-risk checks first, then use the instructions for your device. Roblox’s official guidance covers Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire OS, and ChromeOS.
What Roblox Error 277 means
Roblox describes Error 277 as a failure to establish a network connection between the client application and a game server. The message may read: “Lost connection to the game server, please reconnect | Please check your internet connection and try again.” That message identifies a connection problem, not its source. Roblox Support lists the wording in its bug-reporting guidance; the platform-specific troubleshooting is in Roblox’s Error Code 277 help article.
Start with these quick checks
- Check whether other apps can get online. If they cannot, reconnect your device to the network and check your router or internet service before focusing on Roblox.
- Close and reopen Roblox. On phones, tablets, and Fire devices, force-close the app rather than only leaving it in the background.
- Try another Roblox experience. If only one experience fails, the problem may be specific to that experience rather than your device or connection. Roblox’s connection troubleshooting guide notes that an experience itself can be involved.
- Test a different connection if available. For example, compare your usual Wi-Fi with a phone hotspot. This is a diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix: a change in result helps narrow down whether the usual network may be contributing.
- Restart your device. This is a low-risk step before reinstalling or changing settings.
Fixes by device
Roblox’s official Error Code 277 instructions vary by operating system. Follow the steps for your device and use Roblox’s linked directions for operating-system-specific menus. Reinstallation is a later app-focused step; first see whether another connection or experience changes the result.
Windows
- Restart your PC, then test Roblox on another internet connection if possible.
- Uninstall and reinstall Roblox using the current steps for your Windows version. Roblox’s instructions distinguish Windows 11 from Windows 7, 8.1, and 10; Windows 11 guidance specifies 64-bit architecture.
- If the error continues, follow Roblox’s official instructions for clearing Roblox application data. These involve Command Prompt and removing the local Roblox app folder, so check the current instructions carefully before deleting anything.
- Reinstall Roblox after clearing the data, as directed by Roblox.
macOS
- Restart your Mac and test a different internet connection if you can.
- Uninstall and reinstall Roblox using the current Roblox instructions.
- Check macOS privacy and security settings to ensure they allow Roblox to run. Roblox’s page lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra or newer.
iPhone and iPad (iOS)
- Restart the device, then force-close and reopen Roblox.
- Check that the device’s date and time are correct.
- If the issue remains, reinstall Roblox from the App Store and test another internet connection.
Android
- Restart the device and force-close Roblox.
- Confirm the date and time are correct.
- If Roblox still disconnects, reinstall it from Google Play and test another internet connection. Roblox’s support page specifies Android OS 6 or newer.
Amazon Fire OS
- Force-close Roblox, then restart the Fire device.
- Check the date and time, and test another internet connection.
- If needed, reinstall Roblox from the Amazon store. Consult Roblox’s support page for the Fire device generations it names.
ChromeOS
- Update ChromeOS, then force-close Roblox and restart the Chromebook.
- Check the date and time and test another internet connection.
- If the error persists, reinstall Roblox from Google Play. Roblox’s page specifies Chrome OS 53 or newer.
Check whether the network is blocking Roblox
If the app works on another connection, or the same problem affects Roblox on devices using one network, check the router, firewall, or security software. Roblox recommends comparing wired and wireless connections where possible and confirming that security software permits Roblox. If you launch through a browser, its connection guidance also recommends checking browser security settings and extensions.

- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if available. A wired connection can help determine whether inconsistent wireless is involved; it is not a promised fix.
- Check firewall and router restrictions. Roblox lists UDP ports 49152–65535 as the range it currently uses. Port or router changes are advanced: ask your network administrator or internet provider for help if you are unsure how to make them safely.
- Consider connection quality and loading. Roblox identifies inconsistent wireless, low bandwidth, firewall restrictions, and slow loading of a large experience among possible connection issues.

When to contact support
If Error 277 continues after trying another connection and the relevant device steps, contact Roblox Support. Explain which device and operating system you use, whether the error occurs in more than one experience, and whether Roblox behaves differently on another network. If the comparison points to your home or school network, contact its administrator or your internet provider rather than making unfamiliar router changes.
