Once you have both, return to Tarquin aboard the Lady Vengeance; the documented quest outcomes are to hand him the pieces or keep them.
How to start All In The Family
Find Tarquin northeast of the Stonegarden cemetery on Reaper’s Coast and agree to help him recover an artifact connected to Johanna Surrey. If you have not spoken with him before preparing to leave Reaper’s Coast, Malady can also direct you to find him and bring him back to the Lady Vengeance before you sail. Guides place this quest in Act 2.
The Vidya wiki reports that some players have encountered a bug in which Tarquin does not appear at Stonegarden or trigger the quest aboard the Lady Vengeance. Treat that as a reported, potentially version-dependent issue rather than expected behavior. The Vidya’s quest page includes the report.
How to find the Unusual Artefact in the Surrey family crypt
The route through the cemetery’s Gated Crypt leads to the Shadowed Tomb, also called the Charnel House, and then to the hidden Surrey family crypt. Guides4Gamers’ walkthrough gives the following sequence:

- An entirely re-written journal to catalogue your journey and reflect on your quests. Character romance, disagreements, and unique quest-lines pushing the boundaries between fellowship and feud!
- Enter the Gated Crypt. Use the lever to get inside. Qanna is petrified in the crypt; cast Bless to remove the petrification. The walkthrough then directs you to kill her and take the Shadowed Tomb Key and Ripped Page from her body. The page’s clue is 2 – 1 – 3. A character with enough Thievery can instead unlock the Shadowed Tomb/Charnel House door and skip this note-and-key route.
- Open the Shadowed Tomb. Use the key, or the Thievery route, to enter. Press the two switches in the room to reveal a hidden passage.
- Reveal the wall switches. In the next room, cast Spirit Vision to see three wall switches. Have a character stand on the large switch in the adjoining room.
- Set the room’s elements in order. Press the middle switch until water appears, the left switch until the water is electrified, then the right switch to create Blessed Fire. The tomb moves and reveals the entrance to the Surrey family crypt.
- Take the artefact. Loot the Unusual Artefact from Johanna Surrey’s tomb. Show it to Tarquin, who identifies it as one part of Anathema and directs you to Bloodmoon Island for the other.
The note’s 2-1-3 clue is not the same as the environmental sequence in the hidden-switch room: follow the walkthrough’s water, Electrified Water, and Blessed Fire instructions there. The Vidya wiki lists approximate map coordinates of X 551, Y 127 for the Gated Crypt and X 555, Y 100 for the Surrey family crypt; coordinates may vary with map display or game version.
Where to find the Unusual Blade
- Travel to Bloodmoon Island. Locate the hidden entrance to the Archive. Guides4Gamers says the entrance is revealed with 22 Wits.
- Search the Archive. Find and take the Unusual Blade, the second piece of Anathema.
What to do with the two Anathema pieces
Return to Tarquin on the main deck of the Lady Vengeance. The documented quest record gives you the choice to hand him the pieces or keep them. The consulted walkthrough has a “Quest Reward” heading but does not specify an immediate reward, so no particular reward can be confirmed from it.
