If you’re new to The First Berserker: Khazan, you don’t have to win every exchange to survive. Learn each boss’s patterns, lean on dodge and guard while you get comfortable, choose a weapon whose timing suits you, and make use of the game’s recovery and respec systems.
1. Study the enemy before you commit
Bosses have distinct attack patterns and weaknesses, according to the official PlayStation game page. Watch how an enemy’s sequence unfolds and look for a safe opening before attacking. Trying to trade damage through every move can leave you exposed; patience gives you a chance to learn which moments are safer for a counterattack of your own.
2. Use dodge and guard while learning the timing
A beginner guide from Pro Game Guides, updated March 25, 2025, recommends dodging and guarding as more forgiving starting defenses than counters and reflections, which call for closer knowledge of enemy patterns and tighter timing. Treat that as advice, not a rule: if precise counters are satisfying to you, practice them as you learn an enemy’s moves. You can build confidence with basic defense first and add more demanding techniques when you’re ready.
3. Choose a weapon for its rhythm, not its reputation
The weapons described in the Pro Game Guides recommendations trade speed, defense, and recovery time against one another. The right choice depends on how you like to manage openings, not on a universally best weapon.

Try to notice how long an attack leaves you committed and whether you can comfortably guard or dodge afterward. Those practical details matter more than choosing a weapon because a guide calls it the strongest.
4. Favor survivability early, and experiment with your skills
Pro Game Guides recommends early investment in Vitality for health and Willpower for attack damage. That is a suggested direction rather than a required build, and the available recommendations do not establish a single stat distribution that every player should follow. If you are struggling to stay alive, consider prioritizing health; if you already feel secure, damage may better suit your approach.

The official PlayStation page says skill points can be reset at any time and from anywhere. That makes experimentation practical: try skills that support your preferred defense or weapon, then revise your choices if they aren’t helping.
5. Make defeat and equipment work for you
Recover lost Lacrima
The PlayStation page says lost Lacrima can be recovered by returning to the place where you were defeated. After a loss, consider whether you can safely make that return before moving on.

PlayStation lists options for controller remapping, stick sensitivity and inversion, tutorial reminders, visual comfort, subtitles, and captions.
