UFC Undisputed 3 is the standout choice if you want PRIDE rules, a wider documented mix of modes, and a career built around training and fight-path decisions. EA Sports UFC 3, by contrast, made its pitch with Real Player Motion, a public-profile career hook, and social challenges. Those are differences in design, not proof that one series is universally better. The comparison below focuses on features documented for Undisputed 2009, 2010 and 3, and EA Sports UFC 3; it does not establish how every installment stacks up.
What this comparison covers
“Better” depends on what a player values: alternate rulesets, learning tools, career structure, animation technology, or playing with friends. This is a retrospective feature comparison based on period reviews, game materials and launch announcements, not a new head-to-head test.

UFC announced UFC Undisputed 3 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, describing it as available at North American retailers. Its announcement listed more than 150 playable fighters—a launch-announcement figure, not a current roster count. UFC’s 2012 launch announcement and GameSpot’s 2012 review identify the platforms and features discussed here.
Five things UFC Undisputed did better
1. Undisputed 3 offered PRIDE as a distinct alternative
The clearest difference is UFC Undisputed 3’s PRIDE mode. It offered an alternative to the UFC cage presentation and rules, and the career let players pursue a UFC title or enter a PRIDE tournament. That gives Undisputed 3 a documented content distinction rather than a subjective claim about which game feels more authentic. UFC’s announcement introduced PRIDE mode, while GameSpot’s review describes the career choice.
#1 Best Overall
- Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 (disc) includes the full EA Sports UFC 6 game.
- Powered by fighters: advanced striking and motion systems bring UFC stars to life with more realistic movement, impact, and responsiveness in every exchange.
- Step into the Octagon: refined gameplay delivers tighter controls, fluid animations, and authentic MMA action.
- Fight your story: new immersive modes add narrative depth, making every bout feel personal and driven by your choices.
2. Undisputed 3 put more documented modes in one package
GameSpot’s review of UFC Undisputed 3 covers Career, Title, Title Defense and Ultimate Fights, along with online play and custom tournaments. Ultimate Fights lets players revisit or rewrite historic UFC and PRIDE matchups. For a player who wants several ways to set up fights beyond a conventional career, that breadth is a concrete advantage. GameSpot’s Undisputed 3 review
3. Undisputed 3 tied career progress to learning and preparation
In the same review, a new fighter begins with a limited repertoire and develops through training. Players make decisions involving gyms and which competitions to pursue, giving progression a practical connection to the fighter’s development. That is a different emphasis from EA Sports UFC 3’s career framing around building a public persona, earning fans and generating hype; whether one loop is more satisfying depends on whether you prefer preparation and fight-path choices or profile-building. GameSpot’s Undisputed 3 review; Electronic Arts’ UFC 3 manual
4. Undisputed 3 made onboarding a visible part of the package
GameSpot praised UFC Undisputed 3’s guided tutorial, which the review describes as 62 short exercises, and its submission minigame. The reviewer characterized the fighting as deep but accessible. That evidence supports a case for a deliberate learning path; it does not establish that every player will find the controls easy. GameSpot’s Undisputed 3 review
Rank #2
- Realistic Damage System: Based on the damage you deal and insert in the game, lacerations, bruises and swelling occur in exactly the right places
- Seamless Submissions: The new Seamless Submissions are a revised extension of existing grappling systems with faster animations and removal of mini-games
- Cinematic K.O. Replays: The cinematic K.O. demonstrates the most important updates of UFC in a truly innovative way
- Enhanced Fight Endings: From newly added ways to draw whether offline or online, to realistic updates of referee decisions to protect a fighter on the ground from too much ground-and-pound, the way fighting can end in UFC 5 has improved in number and authenticity
- Battle Week Challenges: Features and content that connect you to blockbuster UFC cards in an unprecedented way with all-new challenges
5. Undisputed 3 let players tune the rules and pace
A developer Q&A for UFC Undisputed 3 describes simulation stamina settings, competition settings that remove some random outcomes, and equalized stats. Those options support players who want to adjust the feel of a match or reduce some competitive variables. This is a description from the development Q&A, not an independent finding that the settings produce a more realistic or balanced game. Prima Games’ developer Q&A

1. EA made animation technology a central selling point
The EA SPORTS UFC 3 manual introduces Real Player Motion (RPM) technology and says the game uses over 3,000 new in-game animations. That is Electronic Arts’ 2018 product specification, not an independent measurement of animation quality or a direct comparison with Undisputed. Electronic Arts’ UFC 3 manual
2. EA UFC 3 gave career a public-profile angle
The manual describes a career in which players shape an online persona to build hype, earn cash and gain fans. It makes the career’s progression about public profile as well as fighting, contrasting with the training, gyms and competition choices documented in UFC Undisputed 3. This is a difference in framing, not a universal verdict on which career is better. Electronic Arts’ UFC 3 manual

3. EA UFC 3 highlighted social challenges
In its 2018 launch announcement, UFC highlighted new social modes for challenging friends in EA Sports UFC 3. That makes friend competition a specific part of EA’s launch pitch; it does not establish the current status of online services or modes. UFC’s EA Sports UFC 3 announcement
4. EA presented RPM as a way to support fluid movement
Electronic Arts described RPM as supporting fluid movement, strikes and combinations. That is the intended benefit stated in the game manual, not a verified result that EA UFC 3 is more responsive than any particular Undisputed game. Electronic Arts’ UFC 3 manual

UFC’s launch announcement presented a new G.O.A.T. career mode alongside gameplay features and animations. The hook gives EA UFC 3 a clear ambition-driven career pitch, distinct from the routes and training decisions described in the Undisputed 3 review. It does not mean that EA’s career will suit every player better. UFC’s EA Sports UFC 3 announcement

Should you get UFC Undisputed 3?
If PRIDE mode, the documented range of modes, and a training-oriented career are your priorities, UFC Undisputed 3 has a strong feature-based case. If you are more interested in EA UFC 3’s RPM presentation, its public-profile career framing, or the friend challenges highlighted at launch, those features point in another direction. The available sources do not establish current availability, online-service status, or a general winner across all EA installments.
UFC Undisputed 3 was released for PS3 and Xbox 360, so a physical copy is the relevant format to look for. Check the live listing for condition, regional compatibility and availability; none can be inferred from its original launch announcement. UFC’s 2012 launch announcement
