What are the Matriarch and Shredder?
Both are ARC machines added in North Line. Embark’s November 12, 2025 announcement describes the Matriarch as “an imposing ARC machine that makes the Queen look friendly” and says it “can be found during a specific map condition.” The Shredder, by contrast, “will first appear in Stella Montis, challenging Raiders to stay sharp in close-quarter encounters.” Read Embark’s North Line announcement.
“Makes the Queen look friendly” is promotional wording, not a measured difficulty ranking. The announcement does not quantify how the Matriarch compares with the Queen, or establish that it is harder in every situation.

What later updates changed or flagged
Matriarch movement and stomp knockback
On May 19, 2026, Update 1.29.0 said the Queen and Matriarch would more often step over objects rather than move through them, reducing unfair knockback. On July 7, 2026, Update 1.36.0 said their stomp knockback would no longer pass through walls. These are dated behavior changes, not a claim that earlier behavior still persists unchanged. Known issues listed on September 22, 2026
Update 1.47.0 listed two enemy-specific issues: the Matriarch may not use all ranged attacks, and a Shredder may float to the ceiling in some Hidden Bunker rooms. What the official descriptions do not establish
The North Line announcement and the cited patch notes do not provide verified health or damage values, drop tables, exact spawn coordinates, or a recommended weapon or loadout. They also do not offer a numeric comparison of the two enemies’ difficulty. For a grounded comparison, the supported distinctions are their encounter framing and the dated behavior notes above—not invented stats or tactics.
