Oblivion Remastered has eight attributes, each affecting a different mix of combat, resources, movement, or social interactions. At each level-up, you receive 12 Virtue Points: spend up to 5 on one attribute and raise as many as 3 attributes. The best choices depend on what you want your character to do—not on a universal ranking.
What each attribute does
Bethesda’s support guide summarizes the attributes by their primary effects. Some additional effects reported specifically for Remastered are included below and identified as secondary-guide details.

Which attributes suit your play style?
Choose based on the result you want from your build. The effects below are useful decision points, not a claim that one attribute is always best.
- For melee and carrying: prioritize Strength for melee damage and carrying capacity. Remastered reporting also associates it with maximum health and unarmed damage.
- For a larger spell reserve: choose Intelligence, which affects total Magicka.
- For spell recovery or defense against magic: consider Willpower.
- For ranged weapons or daggers and shortswords: Agility is relevant; Remastered reporting also connects it to stagger resistance.
- For faster travel and longer jumps: Speed affects movement, and PC Gamer reports an effect on jump distance.
- For health and fatigue-related benefits: Endurance is the direct choice, with Remastered reporting also identifying fatigue and out-of-combat recovery effects.
- For social interactions: Personality affects NPC reactions and persuasion.
- For small, broad bonuses: Luck may help across varied situations, but its effects are subtle.
How attribute increases work when leveling
Skills improve through use. When the bronze level-up indicator appears, sleep to complete the level-up and allocate attribute increases. Bethesda says each level-up awards 12 Virtue Points; no more than 5 can go to one attribute, and you can increase up to 3 attributes at that level. Bethesda Support also warns that enemies scale with level and recommends improving a mix of combat, magic, and stealth skills.

- Sleep to trigger the level-up.
- Allocate the 12 Virtue Points among up to 3 attributes, observing the limit of 5 points on any one attribute.
How Remastered effects differ from original Oblivion references
The original PC manual links attributes to particular skills and gives formulas for starting health, Magicka, fatigue, and encumbrance. Those are original-game descriptions, not confirmation of Remastered formulas. For example, the manual says original maximum Encumbrance equals five times Strength and starting Health equals twice Endurance; do not assume those formulas apply unchanged in Remastered. For Remastered-specific secondary effects, the table attributes the additional details to PC Gamer rather than presenting them as Bethesda’s official concise descriptions. Where those sources do not establish a precise formula, the article describes the reported effect without supplying a numerical calculation.
