If Helldivers 2 keeps crashing on PS5, start with the game and console updates, then try low-risk checks before reinstalling or using Safe Mode. These steps draw on Arrowhead’s PS5 troubleshooting guidance and PlayStation’s general game-start guidance; none is a guaranteed fix, and the available guidance does not identify a particular current crash bug or patch.
Start with low-impact checks
1. Check for a Helldivers 2 update
On the PS5 home screen, highlight Helldivers 2, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. Arrowhead notes that developers may release stability fixes, but its guidance does not name a specific current crash patch.
2. Update PS5 system software
Open Settings and check the System Software Update and Settings menu. PlayStation and Arrowhead both include keeping system software current among their troubleshooting steps.
3. Restart the console
Restart the PS5 from its power options, then launch the game again. PlayStation recommends a restart as general game-start troubleshooting; it is a simple check, not a diagnosis of the crash.

4. Check the game’s storage location
If Helldivers 2 is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal console storage and test again. PlayStation’s advice is aimed at games that will not start, so this is most relevant if the problem includes launch or loading failures.
5. Restore licenses if access seems involved
Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. This is especially worth trying if the game is locked or access errors accompany the problem; it is not a universal crash remedy.

Isolate settings, devices, and conditions
6. Change one visual setting at a time
General PS5 crash advice from Insomniac suggests testing a different game mode, such as Performance or Fidelity, and disabling VRR or HDR. This advice is not specific to Helldivers 2, and Arrowhead does not identify a particular setting as the cause. Change one option, test the same situation, and note whether anything changes.
7. Check airflow and dust
Make sure the console has clear space around it and inspect its vents for dust. Arrowhead recommends checking ventilation when overheating may be involved. If the PS5 reports overheating, stop testing and seek support rather than treating a cooling stand as a proven fix.

8. Temporarily disconnect external devices
Arrowhead recommends testing for conflicts with external devices. Disconnect nonessential accessories, test the game, then reconnect devices one at a time so you can tell whether a particular connection matters.
9. See whether Rest Mode is related
If crashes tend to happen after the PS5 resumes from Rest Mode, try fully shutting down the console instead. Arrowhead also suggests turning off Rest Mode when crashes frequently follow it. Keep track of whether the crash occurs only after resuming or also after a fresh start.

Try Safe Mode options cautiously
Safe Mode changes are more involved than restarting or checking settings. Follow the current instructions on PlayStation’s Safe Mode support page. If the console asks you to connect a controller by USB, use a compatible cable you already have if possible; the cable enables controller use in Safe Mode and is not itself a crash fix. Insomniac’s general PS5 crash guidance also describes this controller connection.
10. Clear the PS5 cache
Arrowhead lists clearing the cache from Safe Mode as an option. Select the cache-clearing option shown in the console’s current Safe Mode menu and follow its prompts. Menu wording can change, so use PlayStation’s instructions rather than relying on an old button sequence.

11. Consider rebuilding the database only after checking the risks
Arrowhead lists rebuilding the database as a troubleshooting option. Before proceeding, review PlayStation’s current instructions and contact PlayStation Support if you are unsure about the effects. Insomniac’s general crash page warns that local data may be lost and advises contacting PlayStation Support before trying this step; do not assume it is risk-free.

12. Delete and reinstall Helldivers 2
Arrowhead and PlayStation both include reinstalling among their troubleshooting options. Delete the game, then download it again from your library. This takes longer than the earlier checks and may help if the installation itself is damaged, but the guidance does not establish that a reinstall will resolve an in-game crash.
13. Use a wired connection if the download or installation may be the issue
PlayStation suggests a wired connection where possible when deleting and re-downloading a game. This may help with a problematic download or install; it does not directly address every crash during gameplay.
Get help if crashes persist
14. Contact PlayStation Support with useful details
If the crash continues—or the console reports overheating—contact PlayStation Support. Include the error code, what was happening when the crash occurred, and the steps that reproduce it. Those details help support distinguish a repeatable failure from a one-off crash. Arrowhead’s PS5 technical-issues page also directs players to troubleshooting but does not promise that these steps resolve every problem.
