What are the best body-swapping games? This curated list spans games where you possess another character, transfer into a clone, or take the form of an object. Those are related but different mechanics: not every pick involves two people literally exchanging bodies. If you’re looking for games that let you possess or control another character, the strongest matches include Mindjack, Messiah, and Super Mario Odyssey.
What counts as a body-swapping game?
The term can mean more than a one-for-one exchange between two people. Here, it covers a player character’s consciousness taking control of another form, whether that form is a person, a robot, a clone, or an object. That broad definition includes possession and transformation, but excludes games where a character merely borrows another character’s abilities without taking over their body.
The eight games below come from a May 22, 2025 roundup. Its order is an editorial selection, not an objective score or universal ranking. The examples are best compared by what the change of form lets you do: solve puzzles, fight, sneak, traverse, or explore a story.

1. Space Station Silicon Valley
A sentient microchip takes over robotic animal bodies. Each animal has different abilities, making the swaps central to traversal and puzzle solving rather than a cosmetic change. It is a particularly direct fit if you want to experiment with how a new body changes what the player can do.

2. Prey
Prey makes the list through Mimic Matter, which lets the player become objects such as a coffee mug. That is transformation, not a literal exchange of minds between two people, but it fits the roundup’s broader definition of taking another form.
3. Mindjack
Mindjack lets the player hack into opponents’ minds and control them. The mechanic comes with a risk: while the player’s consciousness is away from its original body, that body may be vulnerable. This is one of the clearer picks for players specifically seeking the ability to control another character.

4. The Swapper
In this puzzle game, the player creates clones and transfers consciousness into them to work through challenges. The clone is not simply an extra body to command; the transfer makes questions about identity and the relationship between mind and body part of the experience.
5. Messiah
You control Bob, a cherub who can take over unaware enemies and use their capabilities. Possession gives the player access to different abilities and bodies, tying the mechanic to both navigating the game and dealing with its enemies.

6. Second Sight
John Vattic uses psychic abilities to enter or manipulate adversaries’ minds. This is a less certain fit for a strict definition of body swapping: the available description does not establish a guaranteed, literal transfer into another person’s body. It belongs on a broad list of mind-control games, but should not be confused with an unequivocal body exchange.
7. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Sissel is a spirit who can possess objects and corpses. One described use of a corpse lets him rewind events by four minutes, connecting possession to the game’s puzzle-like investigation of what happened. The targets are not simply living characters the player takes over.

8. Super Mario Odyssey
Mario uses Cappy to take over characters and objects. “Capturing” or “possession” is more precise than a literal body swap, but the mechanic makes this a clear, accessible platform-game example: taking a new form changes how Mario moves and interacts with the world.

My Body Your Body
Nintendo UK lists My Body Your Body for Nintendo Switch, with a release date of August 8, 2024, and CyberStep as publisher. Its premise involves four friends whose bodies are randomly swapped each day after a cursed-pot incident. Nintendo UK lists it as single-system, one-player software and gives it a PEGI 16 rating. Those details describe the UK listing; check the relevant regional store for local availability.

DROS
The Steam listing describes DROS as a puzzle adventure in which players switch between a gooey creature and her human bounty hunter shell. It gives a release date of July 20, 2023. That premise makes it a close fit for body-switching, though not a human-to-human exchange.
Crossed Signals
The developer’s itch.io page describes Crossed Signals as an 18+ visual novel about using a phone to swap bodies. As of the page’s September 15, 2026 update, it was marked in development, with demo downloads listed for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. The adult-content designation is relevant before choosing it.
Ex Change
The creator describes Ex Change as a released game about former partners who swap bodies. Its itch.io page lists HTML5, Windows, and macOS, with a name-your-price download, combining visual-novel scenes with top-down RPG exploration. The creator notes mild suggestive themes and consent ambiguity.
