A Proton-compatible Windows game should not be described as having an official Linux release.

How to tell whether a game has a native Linux version
Check the game’s current store page for its supported operating systems or platform icons, and confirm that Linux is explicitly listed. A Windows listing that works through Proton is a different kind of support. If the store page is unclear, consult the developer’s platform information and recent Linux player reports before purchasing.
What to know about multiplayer and anti-cheat
Anti-cheat and launcher requirements can make multiplayer compatibility more complicated than simply launching the game. The status may vary by title, update, and mode; neither a Linux-friendly label nor another player’s older report establishes that current multiplayer works. Check reports for the current version and the exact online features you plan to use.

Controller and handheld considerations
Controller behavior matters on a desktop as well as a handheld. Valve states that the Steam Controller works with Linux PCs and Steam Input. That does not establish support for every game or every controller, so verify the particular game and device. If a controller is part of your setup, look for recent reports about input mapping and in-game controls before buying.
Why older Linux game lists can mislead
The LinuxLinks article with the same title was last updated in 2018 and presents its list as a snapshot. It used a narrower definition: proprietary paid games that did not require Wine.
