Bird of Prey is a multi-stage poacher investigation that starts with Gamekeeper Vostatek and later sends Henry to Gamekeeper Varel. To unlock it, complete Lackey and ensure Vostatek survives the wolves. This walkthrough covers the evidence to collect, the optional Kopanina lead, and how story timing can affect the ending and reward.
How to unlock Bird of Prey
During Lackey, rescue Gamekeeper Vostatek and make sure he survives the wolf encounter. Once Lackey is complete, speak with him at his hut and ask for more work. Investigate the first two ponds
Rocktower Pond
Go southwest from Vostatek’s hut to the poacher’s camp near Rocktower Pond and resolve the encounter. You can arrest the poacher or let him go. Gamer Guides says sparing him can reveal hunting spots, but displeases Vostatek and can cost you the expected reward. Make your choice, then report back to Vostatek to receive the lead to Vidlak Pond. Optional interviews and clues can help narrow the search, but reporting the outcome is what moves the investigation forward.
Vidlak Pond
If you want help locating the next camp, speak with the tanner and the fisherman’s wife; their accounts point toward the woods near a deer spot. Find the poacher’s camp, deal with the suspect, and take the poacher’s gear as evidence. Return to Vostatek and report what you found. You can search directly instead of interviewing the locals, but do not leave without the evidence or the report.

Follow Varel’s leads near Nebakov Mill
After the pond investigations, Vostatek directs Henry to Gamekeeper Varel, near Nebakov Mill. Varel assigns two investigations: Slatego Forest and the Lower Semine woods. Optional conversations add context or help narrow the search; the central task is to find the relevant evidence and report back to Varel.
Slatego Forest
Head to the abandoned camp in the Slatego woods. Deal with the wolves and search the camp, then follow the poacher’s knife or scent toward a corpse at the edge of the search area. Take the knife and bring it to Varel with your report. The gravedigger and other optional contacts can provide additional context, but the knife is the key evidence described by the guides.

Lower Semine
Investigate the Lower Semine woods. You can ask around in the Lair to narrow down where to look, then approach the bandit camp. PowerPyx describes the bandits as hostile; Gamer Guides suggests going at night if you want to try stealth. Search the camp for animal remains or skin and collect the poacher gear, then return to Varel with the evidence and your report.
Optional Kopanina lead: finding Sir Hans Capon
If you reach Varel before entering the wedding sequence in Wedding Crashers, he may give Henry an additional lead at Kopanina. Search north of Trosky Castle for the poaching kit, then follow its scent to the cave or camp where Sir Hans Capon is hiding. Hans is Henry’s lord, so the guides describe covering for him when reporting back to Varel rather than turning him in as another poacher.
This branch is tied to story timing. If you progress far enough that the Kopanina lead is no longer available, the task can instead end after the Lower Semine report. The reported rewards differ between these outcomes, so check the in-game completion notification rather than assuming one reward applies to every route.

- Rocktower: Arresting or sparing the poacher changes the outcome. Gamer Guides reports that sparing him can reveal hunting spots but may forfeit Vostatek’s expected reward.
- Optional interviews: Talking to locals at Vidlak, Slatego, or Lower Semine can make the search easier, but they are not a substitute for finding evidence and reporting it.
- Evidence: The guides identify poacher gear at Vidlak and Lower Semine, the knife at Slatego, and animal remains or skin at Lower Semine as useful proof to bring back.
- Kopanina: Investigating it before entering the wedding can lead to Hans Capon. If you find him, cover for him in your report to Varel.
Rewards and when the task ends
The reported reward depends on when the quest concludes. PowerPyx says that if Bird of Prey ends after For Whom the Bells Toll, following the Lower Semine report, the reward is 175 Groschen plus Vitality XP. For completing the pre-wedding route with the Kopanina/Hans segment, PowerPyx lists 80 Groschen, Strong Aesop, Strong Bowman’s Brew, three dried deer ribs, a Marksman’s kit, and a Cobbler’s kit. Gamer Guides also reports an 80-Groschen bundle and Survival and Houndsmaster XP; it additionally mentions a bow and crossbow purchase discount. Treat that discount as a Gamer Guides-specific detail, not a universal reward confirmed by both walkthroughs.
