Dying Light: The Beast — How to Find EXPcalibur II and Smart Early Easter Eggs

EXPcalibur II takes eight Stone Sigils, a spawned elite fight, and a long extraction—not one pull from a rock. Here are the locations, story gates, and rewarding early secrets.

EXPcalibur II is not a sword you can simply pull from a rock at the start of Dying Light: The Beast. You must find eight Stone Sigils across Castor Woods, place them around the sword northeast of the Monastery, defeat the elite undead that appears, then hold the interaction prompt through a long extraction. Six Sigils are reported to be available early; the other two require story progress.

This guide uses the weapon’s commonly styled name, EXPcalibur II; searches for “Excalibur” and “EXPCalibur” refer to the same hunt. The route details below are based on published guides, not a claim of firsthand testing.

How to get EXPcalibur II

The sword rests atop a high rocky formation northeast of the Monastery. You can reach the site by climbing and parkouring across the rock, but arriving there is only the start: the ritual requires all eight Stone Sigils. GameSpot’s guide describes the weapon as a legendary long sword and says completing the ritual also gives its blueprint: GameSpot’s EXPcalibur II location guide.

  1. Collect the eight Sigils: Void, Moon, Witch’s Mark, Sacrifice, Death, Blood, Curse, and Shadow.
  2. Go to the sword on the rocky formation northeast of the Monastery and place all eight objects around it.
  3. Defeat the elite undead that spawns at the ritual site.
  4. Press and hold the interact button to draw the sword. GameSpot says this extraction takes roughly three minutes or more; keep holding rather than treating the long animation as a failed interaction.

All 8 Stone Sigil locations

GameSpot lists the following locations. The two story-gated Sigils are marked below; the other six are described as collectible at any time by All Things How.

Location descriptions are from GameSpot; the early-availability and story-gate assessment is from All Things How, updated September 24, 2025. Treat the availability split as that guide’s route assessment, not an official walkthrough statement.

Choose an early sweep or a one-pass completionist route

Approach Time before you can claim the sword Story gates Backtracking Spoiler exposure
Early sweep Collect the six reported ungated Sigils now; the sword must wait until the remaining two are available. Postpone Death until “The Beast Within” and Shadow until “Some Like It Dark.” Requires returning to the Sigil locations or ritual after story progress. Lower: avoids details of the gated quests beyond their names.
Completionist sequence Claim it after all eight Sigils are collected and the ritual is complete. Still requires both story gates before the hunt is finished. Can group all eight location visits and the final ritual into a single planned sweep once both gates are open. Higher: includes all Sigil locations and the full ritual.

For a genuinely early detour, gather Void, Moon, Witch’s Mark, Sacrifice, Blood, and Curse, then leave the crypt and Exiles’ Cave visits for later. The route guide does not establish exact travel time, so the practical difference is gate-related: collecting six now reduces the later checklist but cannot produce the sword yet.

Smart Easter eggs worth a detour

These are selected for a distinct payoff or a memorable discovery, not as a complete checklist. Techland’s August 15, 2025 exploration feature describes hidden journals, secret locations, safehouses, relic chambers, developer nods, and secrets that can reward rare blueprints or lore collectibles: Techland’s Castor Woods secrets feature.

Low-friction blueprint hunt: Last Hand of gloVa

Look for a caved-in tunnel with a “9 3/4” wall. Walk through the wall, break the Minecraft-style blocks, and follow the passages toward a train wreck area to claim a blueprint. PowerPyx documents the route, and a Steam community guide also describes the wall and train-station passage: PowerPyx’s Easter egg locations. The Steam guide is marked removed and incompatible, so it is secondary corroboration rather than the stronger route reference.

Longer puzzle with a hidden safe-zone payoff: Beaver’s Stick

This is a more involved diversion than the tunnel secret. Find and return six logs to repair a broken dam, rest until night, then enter the underwater passage to reach a hidden cavern and safe zone with the weapon. PowerPyx gives the log and water-level sequence; the Steam guide summarizes it as a six-branch puzzle. Use PowerPyx’s Beaver’s Stick walkthrough if you want the full sequence before setting out.

Quick, oddball cabinet secret: Strauss & Broda Machete

On a rooftop, knock on the cabinet or panel 77 times to reveal the machete and its blueprint. It is a compact secret with a clear reward, documented by PowerPyx and the Steam community guide. The number is part of the reported interaction sequence, not a general game mechanic.

Are these all the Easter eggs?

No complete count is established. In a GamesRadar report published September 26, 2025, Dying Light: The Beast director Nathan Lemaire said developers had been encouraged to create Easter eggs and added: “I don’t know if all of them have been found, because there is one in particular that I’m thinking of that has not been found or I did not see.” That is his statement at the time of the interview, not proof that the same secret remains undiscovered today: GamesRadar’s interview report.
