Easily Distracted is best suited to a character who wants broad skill coverage, not one who needs to rush a single skill to a high rank. To prompt the offer, spread level-up points across several different skills; a guide reports that players commonly see it after investing in roughly five or six skills, but that is only a heuristic, not a guaranteed threshold.
How do you trigger Easily Distracted?
Invest level-up points in several different skills rather than concentrating them in one or two. All Things How, updated October 28, 2025, says player reports commonly place the offer after investment in roughly five or six skills, while noting that timing varies. The game’s exact trigger formula has not been established by the sources available, so treat that range as a practical clue—not a fixed requirement.
There is no supported need to start or switch quests, travel, or follow a timed sequence. Continue spending points across a broad selection of skills and watch for the flaw offer.
What does the flaw change?
According to All Things How, accepting Easily Distracted grants one additional skill point per level, but limits where level-up points can be spent: on skills still at zero or on skills tied for the lowest non-zero rank. In effect, opened skills tend to rise together instead of letting you push one skill far ahead.

A skill at zero remains eligible even when other skills have ranks. Among skills already started, the currently lowest ranks are eligible until they catch up. This allocation rule is the central trade-off: the extra point supports breadth, but does not remove the floor on raising a preferred skill.
Is Easily Distracted worth taking?
| Build approach | What the flaw offers | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Generalist or hybrid | Extra points can help develop a wider range of skills and support varied checks or utility. | You still need to manage which skills you open and how quickly they rise. |
| Specialist | The extra point per level can add breadth around a primary skill. | The lowest-rank allocation rule can delay reaching a high rank or breakpoint in the skill you want to prioritize. |
Take it if you are comfortable developing a compact group of skills together and value options across different situations. Think twice if your plan depends on reaching a particular high-rank check as early as possible.

How to plan around the allocation limit
- Pick a deliberate core. All Things How suggests focusing on roughly five to seven core skills. That is planning advice, not a mechanical cap.
- Consider before opening another skill. A newly opened skill at zero can become eligible for points, affecting how your level-up points are distributed.
- Use temporary support for urgent checks. The guide recommends gear or consumables to help bridge priority checks while permanent skill ranks catch up; their availability and effect depend on the specific check and item.
- Accept only if the lasting trade-off fits. All Things How describes the effects as permanent after acceptance. Treat that as the guide’s advice rather than an independently verified guarantee about every game version.
What if the extra point does not appear?
Obsidian’s Patch 1.0.6.0 notes record a fix for “a rare issue where the Easily Distracted flaw did not provide extra skill points on level up.” That documents a past fix; it does not establish the current version of every installation or prove that every similar report has the same cause. If you accepted the flaw and do not see the extra point, check that your game is updated and compare the level-up result with the flaw’s stated effect.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can it work in a combat-focused build?
Yes. Xbox Wire’s November 6, 2025 feature on Obsidian’s character builds lists Easily Distracted among the flaws in a featured melee-and-sneak build. That shows the flaw can be chosen intentionally in a combat build, but it does not change the allocation restriction or make it ideal for every specialist. The build’s QA analyst, Roberto Bautista, described its focus as damage, survivability, and mobility; that comment concerns the build overall, not the flaw’s mechanics.
