It depends on your console and controller. On PS5, raise Vibration Intensity in Settings > Accessories > Controller (General). On Nintendo Switch, make sure Controller Vibration is on; Switch does not offer a general intensity slider in the cited support guidance. Also check the game’s own options, since vibration can depend on both system and game settings.
Increase vibration on PS5
- Open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General).
- Select Vibration Intensity and raise it.
- If you use a DualSense Edge, check the active profile: intensity can be configured per profile.

Vibration versus trigger effects
If you want more resistance when pressing L2 or R2, adjust Trigger Effect Intensity separately. Trigger effects are not the same as general vibration, and they work only in compatible games. Sony explains the distinction in its PS5 controller settings guide.
Check vibration on Nintendo Switch
Confirm that Controller Vibration is enabled in the console settings. Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the feature setting along with system and controller updates, charge, and controller reset. Follow these steps if rumble is absent or unexpectedly weak:

- Install the latest Nintendo Switch system update.
- Update the controller firmware if an update is offered.
- Charge the controller, then test vibration again.
- Reset it by pressing the SYNC button once, then press another button to reconnect.
- Verify that Controller Vibration is enabled.
Nintendo notes that rumble intensity can differ between games and controllers, and that this variation can be normal. Its support page also says Switch Lite can use HD Rumble with a supported wireless controller. Check the game before assuming the controller is faulty
Open the game’s settings and look for controller, vibration, or rumble options. A game may let you adjust or disable vibration independently. Conversely, a console-level vibration setting that is off can prevent vibration even when the game option is on; Square Enix describes this interaction in its controller vibration troubleshooting guidance.

If you use Xbox or PC
The available official Xbox support material does not establish a reliable current settings path for every Xbox controller or Windows setup. Check the game’s options first, then consult official support for your exact controller and platform rather than relying on a menu path that may not apply to your model or software version.

If vibration has stopped, or one controller is markedly weaker than another, try updates, charging, and reset before replacing anything. Nintendo recommends seeking service if vibration remains absent with the setting enabled, or if a substantial controller-to-controller difference interferes with play.

Some controllers have their own rumble adjustment. For example, the Thrustmaster eSwap X Pro manual describes changing maximum handle vibration intensity through button and trigger inputs. That is a model-specific hardware control, not a way to boost an existing controller; check compatibility with your platform and current availability before considering it.
