When did Open Beta Weekend 2 start?
Weekend 2 opened Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 08:00 UTC (01:00 PT). EA’s schedule listed the beta’s scheduled close as August 18 at 08:00 UTC, although its August 13 playlist announcement described activities running through August 17. It was an open weekend, so players did not need a code. The beta was available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the EA app. EA’s beta schedule and Weekend 2 announcement gave the timing and platform details.
What changed in the beta playlists?
EA said Weekend 2 would rotate through multiple modes to offer more choice and keep more fan-favorite modes available at the same time. One example was an All-Out Warfare playlist combining Breakthrough, Conquest, and Rush. The schedule also included Conquest, Rush, Attack & Defend, Close Quarters, Squad Deathmatch, mixed All-Out Warfare, and Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare at different points across the weekend. EA described the daily rotation as specific to the beta and said it was not planned for launch. EA’s August 13, 2025 playlist announcement outlined the rotation.
The Battlefield Team said the rotations helped the developers understand what players enjoyed while keeping multiple popular modes available. That made the beta playlist schedule a way to test matchmaking flexibility, rather than a fixed preview of the eventual live playlist lineup.

How Custom Search worked—and what it did not do
Custom Search let players select preferred map-and-mode combinations. EA’s example was Conquest on Siege of Cairo: matchmaking would prioritize that pairing if it was available. The system did not guarantee that a match would use the selected combination, and EA explicitly distinguished it from a Server Browser. The beta announcement described the feature.

How the beta approach differed from the launch plan
In its pre-launch “Play Your Way” update, EA described a launch design with all launch maps available across playlists, both single-mode and mixed-mode playlist options, and Custom Search for requesting specific map-and-mode combinations. EA also said a Server Browser would be available from the Community section and that Breakthrough, Conquest, and Rush were verified at launch. These were pre-launch statements, not a guarantee of which playlists are active today. EA’s “Play Your Way” update records those plans.

EA’s August 21, 2025 beta debrief said beta playlists had been limited to showcase and test matchmaking flexibility. It also acknowledged that players had difficulty finding matches for some challenges. EA reported 92,351,578 hours played during the Open Beta. Its debrief reported 420 million matches, 4.9 billion enemies killed, and 30.9 million revives; EA also cited more than 600,000 hours streamed and more than 30 million hours watched. These are publisher-reported totals; the cited materials do not establish independent auditing. EA’s August 21 debrief provides the figures and context.

In an August 7, 2026 post, the official Battlefield communications account said Custom Search filters had to be tied directly to active playlists. When a playlist rotates out, its corresponding filter can temporarily disappear. BFComms said playlist changes were intended to concentrate players in more active playlists, improve match fill, and reduce time to action, while also acknowledging feedback about missing modes. BFComms’ August 7, 2026 explanation describes this relationship.

A July 30, 2026 BFComms post listed playlist changes across regions, plus a separate Battle Royale adjustment for APAC, and said Custom Search could configure combinations of the listed playlists. That rotation is a dated snapshot, not a permanent list: check the latest official playlist update and the relevant region before assuming a particular mode or filter is currently selectable. The July 30, 2026 playlist update gives the dated details.
