Start with Gray Zone Warfare’s in-game onboarding area and Field Manual, then plan each deployment around one clear task objective. The game is an Early Access, PvE-first tactical shooter set on Lamang, with solo and squad play; its systems can change between updates, so confirm task details and mechanics in the current build.
Understand the deployment loop
Gray Zone Warfare centers on deploying as an operator, completing missions, earning reputation and exploring Lamang, either alone or with a squad. It is not a fixed, finished experience: the Steam listing labels it Early Access and notes that development may change the game. Treat older guides—especially those with specific routes, healing instructions or equipment rules—as potentially out of date. MADFINGER Games’ Steam listing summarizes the current feature set.
Get oriented before your first task
Use the onboarding area and Field Manual
Begin with the in-game tutorial and onboarding area, then consult the Field Manual when you need a reference. Both are part of the Update 0.4 feature summary. These are the best grounded starting points for learning the current interface; published information does not establish every control binding or tutorial step, so check the live game rather than relying on an old keybind list.
Check the task interface before leaving
Read the active objective in the task interface and identify any required intel before you travel. Update 0.4 introduced a redesigned task system and added more than 100 tasks and contracts, updated more than 50 existing tasks, and brought the total to more than 250, according to MADFINGER’s Steam feature summary accessed October 4, 2026. Those are developer-published counts, not a promise that every task is available to every player in the same order or a ranking of the easiest rewards.

Older developer notes described task-intel warnings and waypoints shared with squadmates. Those notes date to 2024; check whether the current task screen still presents them in the same way rather than assuming an old guide’s interface is current. MADFINGER’s developer news is the official place to track announcements.
Make each deployment manageable
Choose one clear objective
For an early run, focus on understanding and completing the active task rather than treating the deployment as a checklist of unrelated errands. Review the objective and its intel before setting out, and use the current map and task interface to orient yourself. Available official information does not establish a universal beginner route, so a route from another player may not suit your objective or current build.
Check your equipment in the live interface
Before deploying, inspect your inventory and the visible condition of your equipment. A 2024 developer devlog discussed durability and inventory organization, but it is historical context, not reliable proof that every old item rule or upkeep procedure still applies. Follow the current in-game item information and Field Manual instead of relying on a precise durability threshold or checklist from an older guide. Official developer updates can help you identify changes between builds.
Decide whether to play solo or with a squad
The game supports solo and squad play, and Steam lists online co-op. Solo play means handling the task and your coordination yourself; a squad offers the option to coordinate with other players. The available sources do not establish that either choice has a universal difficulty, loot or progression advantage. If you play co-op, a headset is an optional way to hear and communicate with teammates, not a game requirement.

Know what is changing in Update 0.5
As of MADFINGER Games’ October 4, 2026 announcement, Update 0.5 (Rogue Ops) was scheduled for Supporter Preview on October 19 and full release on October 22, 2026. Those were announced dates, not confirmation that the update is live. The developer said the update would include health-system and audio changes, AI adjustments, changes to Combat Outposts, and up to four playable characters per account with separate progression by mode. Read the developer’s Update 0.5 announcement and devlog for the announcement as stated at that date.
The same announcement described a soft wipe: completed tasks, rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels and statistics would be retained, while locker contents and money would be wiped. Players with existing character progression would need to choose a mode, and the announcement described that choice as irreversible. It also outlined distinct PvE and PvEvP progression. Because these were future-update plans as of October 4, check the live build and official announcement before making decisions based on them.
