No: ANANTA is not established as “anime GTA 6,” and “creatively bankrupt” is a critical judgment, not a fact the trailer can prove. The comparison makes sense at a broad level: both are urban open-world games, and ANANTA’s trailer shows familiar activities such as driving, combat, traversal, and switching characters. But the developer describes a different artistic approach and character focus. Calling ANANTA a gacha game also needs qualification: in a December 2025 interview, its developer said it did not plan character gacha and expected monetization to focus primarily on skins.
Why are people comparing ANANTA with GTA 6?
The comparison comes from the city-scale open-world framing and the range of activities visible in ANANTA’s gameplay trailer. It shows driving, traversal, combat, character switching, and other familiar urban-game conventions. That gives critics grounds to ask whether the game’s ideas feel derivative, but a trailer is not enough to establish how these systems work together in the finished game.
GamesRadar+ argued that the trailer’s many borrowed-looking elements may not cohere. That is an editorial reaction to promotional footage, not a finding about a finished, hands-on game. The evidence supports a discussion about recognizable genre conventions; it does not establish that ANANTA is a GTA 6 equivalent or objectively devoid of original ideas.
What kind of game is ANANTA?
NetEase described ANANTA in its September 22, 2025 announcement as a free-to-play urban open-world RPG set in an anime-style world, with PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile platforms listed. The publisher says players will control a variety of characters and explore neighborhoods where everyday city life meets hidden threats. Those are publisher descriptions of the announced game, not independent confirmation of every promised feature.

The Naked Rain team told TechRadar that it welcomed the GTA 6 comparison but saw both games as distinct within the urban open-world genre. The team pointed to differences in art style and character stories, among other aspects. TechRadar describes ANANTA’s presentation as stylized and cel-shaded, contrasting it with GTA’s pursuit of photorealism.
Setting and presentation
Naked Rain has said it wants to represent modern Asian urban life. In the interview, the team explained: “Since there are still very few games set in Asia, we wanted to create a game that captures the essence of modern Asian urban life and share it with the world.” That statement describes the developer’s ambition; it does not, on its own, prove that the game’s world or design will feel distinctive in play.
Characters and story
NetEase says players will control a variety of characters, while Naked Rain identified character stories as one difference from GTA 6. The available announcements do not establish the full structure of those stories or how character switching works, so it is too early to treat the feature as equivalent to another game’s approach.

Does ANANTA look creatively derivative?
That is a fair question to ask of the trailer, but “creatively bankrupt” goes beyond what the footage establishes. Driving through a city, fighting, moving across the environment, and changing playable characters are familiar open-world ingredients. Their presence can make a game look familiar; whether ANANTA combines them into something distinctive depends on execution, pacing, mission design, and how its systems interact—details that a promotional trailer cannot settle.

A more defensible criticism is that the trailer presents many recognizable mechanics without yet showing how they form a coherent whole. A more defensible counterpoint is that genre overlap does not make two games interchangeable: ANANTA’s stated setting, stylized art direction, and character-story emphasis point to a different intended identity. Both observations are provisional until the game can be judged on fuller evidence.

Not on the evidence currently available if “gacha” means a planned character-draw system. In its December 3, 2025 interview with TechRadar, the Naked Rain team said it did not plan to implement character gacha mechanics and that monetization would primarily focus on character skins. That is a reported developer plan, not a guarantee of the eventual store or a complete account of every monetization feature.

Free-to-play and gacha are not synonyms. Free-to-play describes access and a business model in which players can start without buying the game; gacha usually refers to randomized draws for characters or items. ANANTA was announced as free-to-play, but the developer’s stated plan means it is inaccurate to call character gacha a confirmed mechanic. The final monetization details are not established by that interview.
When is ANANTA expected, and what platforms are listed?
NetEase’s September 22, 2025 announcement listed PC, PS5, and mobile. PC Gamer’s August 28, 2026 guide reported a January 15, 2027 launch for those platforms, attributing the date to an announcement at Gamescom 2026. The 2027 date is therefore a reported schedule, while the earlier platform list is from the publisher’s 2025 announcement.
TechRadar reported more than 15 million preregistrations on December 3, 2025. That is a dated figure, not a current count, and it says nothing by itself about the game’s quality or originality.
