Forza Horizon 6 is already available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Its standard release date was May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access starting May 15. Playground Games announced a PlayStation 5 version for later in 2026, but the official materials covered here do not establish an exact PS5 date. Set in an adapted version of Japan, the game combines open-world driving with Festival progression, exploration rewards, multiplayer and creative tools.
When does Forza Horizon 6 come out?
Forza Horizon 6 launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026. Premium Edition early access began May 15. Those dates were announced by Playground Games on January 22, 2026; the early-access window was for Premium Edition owners.
What platforms is Forza Horizon 6 on?
The announced launch platforms were Xbox Series X|S and PC. PC storefronts included the Microsoft Store/Xbox app and Steam. Xbox Wire also listed Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud and Game Pass Ultimate alongside the launch platforms. Store and subscription terms can change, so check the relevant store for current access.
At launch, Playground said Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members could play on May 19 under their memberships. That is a subscription-access route, not a separate claim that every plan or region includes the game indefinitely.

Xbox Play Anywhere applies to digital purchases through the Xbox ecosystem and carries the purchase, save profile and DLC entitlements between Xbox and Windows Microsoft Store. Steam is excluded from those Play Anywhere entitlements. Official feature coverage describes cross-play and cross-save across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5 and Steam; these are distinct from Play Anywhere purchase entitlements.
Is Forza Horizon 6 coming to PS5?
Yes. Playground announced a PS5 version to follow the Xbox and PC launch, describing it as coming later in 2026. A May 22, 2026 update still used that timing, but the official materials here do not confirm a specific PS5 release date. Check the PlayStation Store or a newer official announcement for the current date.

Where is Forza Horizon 6 set?
The game takes place in an interpreted version of Japan, with Tokyo districts and contrasting landscapes. The world includes urban areas such as suburbs, docks, industrial zones and downtown landmarks, alongside settings inspired by places such as Mount Haruna and the Tateyama Kurobe alpine route.
It is not a one-for-one recreation of real Japan. Xbox Wire’s launch guide, drawing on interviews with Design Director Torben Ellert and Art Director Don Arceta, describes the game world as an interpretation of landmarks and the way they connect, shaped for driving. That distinction matters: the setting takes inspiration from real places and Japanese car culture, but the map is a designed game world rather than a literal geographic replica.

How do exploration and progression work?
The Collection Journal gives exploration a role in progression. It records discoveries and points of interest, and can include photos players take of landmarks and other notable places. Official coverage connects those discoveries with Japan and Festival progression, so exploring the map is more than a way to find another road.
Festival wristband progression also returns. Players can unlock eight houses, while a larger customizable Estate offers another space to make their own. The game’s design director, Torben Ellert, described Tokyo’s dense urban environment as “the most visually, radically different space we’ve ever built for a Horizon game” in a January 22, 2026 Xbox Wire interview.

What can you do beyond open-road driving?
Car Meets and Time Attack
Car Meets draw on Japanese car culture and the Daikoku meet, with Playground describing them as informal and open. The Hokobu Circuit offers Time Attack, where players chase their best time and can challenge friends.
Racing and multiplayer
Announced multiplayer options include returning modes The Eliminator and Hide & Seek, as well as new Spec Racing Championships. The game also supports social play through Car Meets and activities involving friends.

Event creation and customization
Players can create and share liveries, tuning setups, race events and locations. Playground’s feature coverage also highlights upgraded EventLab and CoLab tools, including multiplayer support, for building and playing custom content with others.
Which accessibility features has Playground announced?
Playground has named features including carryover accessibility options from earlier Horizon games, American Sign Language and British Sign Language, Car Proximity Radar, AutoDrive and a customizable High Contrast mode. These are developer-announced features; individual options may or may not meet a particular player’s needs, so review their in-game behavior and settings.
What did Playground report after launch?
In a May 22, 2026 “Thank You for Playing” update, Playground said it was addressing AMD GPU frame-rate issues, investigating audio crackling on some PC configurations, and working on crashes and invalid-loading problems. It said a hotfix for invalid-loading errors was already available and recommended using current GPU drivers. The post also linked to minimum and recommended PC specifications.
That same update described monthly series updates, an Italian Passion Car Pack planned for July for Premium players, and two Premium expansions. These were statements about plans in the May update, not a guarantee of the present content schedule or current technical status; consult newer official updates for changes.
