“The Noble” is the Shinbakufu target arc for Ukita Naoie; its finale is the main quest “Spring and Fall.” Complete “A Peculiar Guest” to unlock it, then meet Kuroda Kanbei west of Himeji Castle and choose “We are ready.” You can use Yasuke for a more straightforward open fight or Naoe for stealth. The final choice to kill or spare Naoie does not change his fate: he dies either way.
How to unlock and start The Noble finale
On the Objectives Board, follow Shinbakufu > The Noble > Ukita Naoie. The arc’s finale, “Spring and Fall,” is listed as main quest 45 in Harima, with a recommended level of 25. It unlocks after “A Peculiar Guest.” That quest follows “The Rengakai,” “Losing Hand,” and “The Scent of War” in the target sequence. PowerPyx’s “Spring and Fall” walkthrough lists the reward as 2,000 EXP and 3 Mastery Points.

- Travel west of Himeji Castle and speak with Kuroda Kanbei.
- Choose “We are ready” to begin. “We need more time” does not advance the story.
Should you choose Yasuke or Naoe?
After the opening cutscene, choose either character for the castle approach. Neither is mandatory for the entire mission: the walkthrough describes opportunities to switch characters along the way and again before the boss encounter.
| Character | Best suited to | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Yasuke | Open combat; the guide presents him as the more straightforward option when fighting defenders directly. | Less suited to a stealth-first approach. |
| Naoe | Stealth, including sneaking past or assassinating enemies. | Use stealth routes rather than relying on the direct-combat approach. |
Pick the style you prefer rather than treating either choice as a quest requirement. GameSpot’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows guide hub also provides general character and platform context.

Secure the honmaru
Make your way through the castle and deal with its hostile shinobi and other defenders. The route includes an elite lieutenant at a gate, followed by a larger area that you must clear before the honmaru is secure. At one point, Naoe can climb a wall, while the ground route continues through a door; choose the path that suits your approach.
Climb the tenshu
Continue up the tower toward Ukita Naoie. Yasuke’s route involves fighting through rooms; Naoe can sneak and assassinate enemies. You can choose which character to take into the boss encounter, so there is no need to commit to one style for the whole quest.

Handle the boss fight
Naoie uses smoke bombs, and shinobi join the fight. When the supporting enemies appear, deal with them before returning your attention to Naoie. If you are underleveled and struggling, leave the quest and build experience through side content before trying again.

The earlier choice between “We fight now” and “Finish reading” changes the tone of the conversation, not the quest’s story path. At the end, you can choose “Kill Ukita Naoie” or “Spare Ukita Naoie,” but neither option saves him: he dies immediately if killed, or bleeds out if spared. The subsequent dialogue changes what you say to Ukita Himie, while the quest continues the same way. PowerPyx’s walkthrough describes these outcomes.
