You are not locked into one sect permanently. The available guides describe sects as optional organizations, with one active sect at a time. To switch, leave your current sect, become sectless, then complete the next group’s entry process. The precise consequences of leaving—such as rank retention, costs, or cooldowns—are not established consistently, so read the confirmation shown in your current game before committing.
What sects are and what membership changes
Sects are in-game organizations, not permanent character-creation classes. You can remain sectless, or join a sect to take part in its rules and progression. Guides describe membership as offering a signature martial art and matching weapon, along with access to rank or reputation progression, shops, titles, and other rewards. Rewards and systems may change with updates.
Joining generally means opening the Sects menu, choosing a group and its entry clue, finding its elder or contact, and meeting its initiation requirements. The exact steps depend on the sect and may change; follow the instructions currently displayed in-game.
Examples of sect identities
One guide associates Well of Heaven with chivalrous or charitable conduct, Silver Needle with healing, Midnight Blades with PvP, and Nine Mortal Ways with trickery. These are examples rather than a complete or guaranteed-current roster. Before choosing, compare the current entry requirements, rules or weekly expectations, combat rewards, and other benefits in the game.

Can you join more than one sect?
The guides describe membership as one sect at a time, rather than simultaneous membership in multiple sects. You can change groups, but the general flow is to leave your current sect first; you become sectless before completing another sect’s entry process. The sources also say returning to a previous sect is possible, but they do not reliably establish whether rank or reputation resumes or resets when you return.
How to switch sects safely
- Open the Sects menu and locate the option to leave your current group.
- Read the on-screen confirmation in full. Check for any stated loss of progress, cost, cooldown, or other restriction before confirming.
- Leave the current sect. The general switching flow described by guides makes you sectless before you can join another.
- Choose the next sect, follow its entry clue, and complete the requirements or initiation shown in-game.
- After joining, check your rank, reputation, shop access, and the menu’s return information so you know what carried over.
Do not rely on a universal departure fee, cooldown, trial, or rank-retention rule. An older Game8 guide, dated November 19, 2025, describes a “Betray Master” choice, a Severance Trial, and a restriction on joining another sect. A more recent general guide instead describes departure through the menu and says players can return. Because the older page may no longer reflect the current game, use the live menu’s prompts as the authority for your character.

What happens if you stay sectless?
Sectless play is an option for players who prefer not to follow sect-specific rules or weekly expectations. A secondary guide says sect martial arts may cost more to obtain while sectless, while also noting Skill Theft or other possible routes. Treat that as a reported tradeoff, not a guaranteed current price or acquisition rule; check the relevant skill and Sects menus in your version of the game.

How to choose a sect before committing
- Check the obligations: Look for conduct rules and weekly expectations that fit how often and how socially you want to play.
- Compare the rewards: Review martial arts, weapons, shops, titles, and other rewards currently listed for each group.
- Match the playstyle: The named examples point toward different interests, including healing, PvP, charitable conduct, and trickery, but verify each sect’s current description and requirements.
- Keep switching uncertainty in mind: If you are still deciding, read the leave prompt before joining or leaving; guides do not settle every version’s departure consequences.
