To unlock repeatable bridge and incline projects in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, complete the early island tasks until all three newcomers have moved into their furnished housing plots. Tom Nook will then announce that Resident Services is upgrading from a tent to a building. Once the building is open, speak to him about infrastructure. The first bridge you build is an earlier story task; it does not mean the later bridge-and-incline options are already available.
How to upgrade Resident Services
- Follow Tom Nook’s early island requests. Progress through the settlement tasks, including preparing the shop and getting ready for new residents. Nintendo’s beginner’s guide describes these as part of the island’s progression.
- Build the first bridge when requested. Tom Nook asks for this as part of the early story. Choose a location that makes everyday movement easier; Nintendo recommends building it across the river you vault across most often.
- Place all three housing plots and furnish them. Each plot has its own furnishing requirements. Read the placard at each site and complete its checklist; placing a plot alone does not finish the preparation.
- Wait for all three newcomers to move in. Tom Nook announces the Resident Services upgrade after their arrivals, not merely after you place the plots or deliver the furniture.
- Let the building upgrade finish. When Resident Services reopens as a building, talk to Tom Nook to access infrastructure projects.
Why the first bridge does not unlock inclines
The first bridge belongs to the early settlement sequence and is requested before the three newcomers arrive. Later bridges and inclines are separate infrastructure projects available through Tom Nook after Resident Services becomes a building. For that first bridge, Nintendo’s practical advice is to choose the river crossing you use most often. For later projects, consider which route or elevation change would make your island easier to navigate.
How to request later bridges and inclines
Speak to Tom Nook inside the Resident Services building and choose the infrastructure consultation, then select the bridge or incline project you want. Use the project details shown in the current game menu to check its cost and placement requirements; exact prices and universal project limits are not established by the cited guides and can be affected by the project options available on your island.
If Resident Services is still a tent
- Check whether all three new residents have actually arrived. Placing the housing plots or furnishing them is not the same as completing their move-ins.
- Return to each plot’s placard and verify that its required items have been supplied.
- Continue following Tom Nook’s current story request. The upgrade follows the three arrivals in the documented progression.
If the building is open but a project is unavailable
Start with Tom Nook’s infrastructure consultation and review the options and placement guidance displayed in-game. The available guides do not establish every island-specific project restriction, multiplayer-account edge case, or construction limit, so use the current menu rather than assuming a particular price or daily cap.
