What does the Arcane Absorption Dagger do?
Its Arcane Absorption passive says: “When you kill an enemy with a melee attack, regain one of your spent 1st Level spell slots.” The trigger is specifically a kill with a melee attack; the listed effect does not establish that a ranged attack or a thrown dagger qualifies. The item entry on bg3.wiki documents the passive.
What are its listed weapon properties?
- Rarity and enchantment: Very rare; +1.
- Weapon: One-handed simple melee dagger with the finesse, light, and thrown properties.
- Damage: 1d4 + 1 Force damage, plus the wielder’s Strength or Dexterity modifier.
- Weapon action: Piercing Strike, available with proficiency when the dagger is equipped in the main hand.
These are the item’s listed properties, not a claim that the dagger can be equipped in an ordinary playthrough. bg3.wiki’s item entry identifies it as content that does not appear in normal gameplay as of Patch 8.
Where is it supposed to be found?
No ordinary acquisition location is documented. The item entry associates it with an unused treasure table for Araj Oblodra at Moonrise Towers, named MOO_InfernalTrader_SpecialStock. That association does not mean Araj sells the dagger in the live game. The dagger is also categorized as unobtainable in the bg3.wiki dagger list.

What does the dagger look like?
The item description calls attention to jugs decorating the leather grip. As the sequence progresses, one jug fills; the final image reveals a man’s severed head above it, filling it with beads of blood. The quoted description is transcribed on the item page.

The available item documentation says the dagger does not appear in normal gameplay as of Patch 8. That does not establish whether a mod, third-party tool, or a later game update could expose or change the item; those are outside the ordinary-play availability claim. A player asking “Has anyone found the arcane absorption dagger?” should not treat its unused Araj treasure-table entry as evidence of a hidden in-game shop stock.
