Is Apex Legends cross-play down right now?
EA’s announcement describes a regional test, not a game-wide outage: it enables cross-play as the default option for all players on all platforms in US-West servers. EA said it would begin at approximately 10 a.m. PT on October 7, 2026, and run until the season ends on November 3. Console players can opt out by turning off cross-play in the settings menu. A status page is a useful first check, but a normal status snapshot cannot confirm that every account, region, or cross-play feature is working. A problem affecting one friend or party is not, by itself, evidence of a service-wide outage.
Check the likely causes in this order
- Check service status. Look at EA’s server status page and the status page for the affected platform. If the service reports an issue, wait for it to clear before changing account or party settings.
- Confirm cross-play is on. Check the in-game cross-play setting. On Xbox One, cross-play also has a separate Xbox system-level setting that must be enabled. If you’re on console in US-West, switching cross-play off opts you out of EA’s announced test.
- Find and re-add your friend. In the lobby, open Friends Menu → Find Friend and search the exact username. Send a request and ask the other player to accept it in their lobby. If either player previously blocked the request, unblock them through Find Friends; blocking a request prevents later cross-play invitations from that player until unblocked.
- Check platform pairing and queue expectations. Console players normally match with console players, while PC players match with PC players. A party that includes a console and a PC player is placed into PC matches. If cross-play is disabled, you can only match with same-platform players who also disabled it, which can mean very long queues.
- Escalate to the relevant support channel. EA directs players to Apex announcements, Answers HQ, and EA Help for reports and connection troubleshooting. EA handles PC and game issues; Xbox issues go to Microsoft, and PlayStation issues go to Sony.
How Apex cross-play and invites work
EA lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through the EA App or Steam as supported platforms for playing together. Cross-play is on by default. Cross-platform party invitations appear in the lobby, and members of a cross-platform party can use in-game voice chat. EA’s cross-play FAQ explains the supported platforms and friend-request flow.

Some symptoms are expected consequences of the matchmaking rules rather than evidence that cross-play is broken. A console player joining a PC player’s party enters PC matchmaking; opting out narrows the pool to same-platform players who also opted out. These distinctions matter when the issue is limited to one party or queue rather than an inability to connect across the game.
When a report does—and doesn’t—show an outage
Players have reported missing cross-platform friends and invitations, including individual reports from March 2026. Those older reports do not establish the current service state or show how widespread a problem is. Check official service information and isolate whether the failure affects one friend, one party, one platform, or multiple regions before treating it as a general outage.
