Apex Legends’ Takeover update was Season 24, which ran from February 11 to May 5, 2025. Its patch notes describe a broad combat rebalance: Ash and Ballistic received major Legend changes, Assault gained new perks, weapons were adjusted across several categories, and armor progression and healing were reworked. These are historical Season 24 notes, not confirmation that the same mechanics are in the current live game. Read EA’s official Takeover patch notes.
What was the Takeover update?
EA published the Takeover patch notes on February 10, 2025, ahead of the season’s February 11 launch. Season 24 ended May 5, 2025, according to EA’s season archive. EA described the update as a push toward more aggressive combat, including broad weapon changes and reduced first-person muzzle-flash clutter. The notes do not establish whether every Season 24 mechanic remains in the current game.
EA’s pre-launch overview said every weapon would receive an update; that meant a wide-ranging rebalance, not a universal buff. Some weapons gained damage, while others had tradeoffs or moved between floor loot and Care Packages.
What changed for Ash, Ballistic, and Assault?
Ash
- Predator’s Pursuit: Ash gained an air dash, triggered by pressing Jump while airborne.
- Arc Snare: The tether attached at the projectile’s impact point and became harder to break.
- Phase Breach: Its range increased to 100 meters from about 76 meters, with faster travel and more reliable placement.
Ballistic
- Sling: It leveled by default and could carry Care Package weapons. Those weapons had infinite ammo during Tempest.
- Whistler: Ballistic gained a second tactical charge.
- Tempest: The ultimate granted a speed boost to Ballistic’s squad.
Assault class perks
- Combat Reserve provided extra ammo per stack, two grenade-only inventory slots, and continued access to Red Extended Supply Bins.
- Stowed Reload automatically reloaded a holstered weapon after two seconds.
- Battle Surge triggered when the player broke an enemy’s shields, granting a speed burst and fast reloads while highlighting that enemy for four seconds.
Which weapons changed?
The examples below show the range of the changes in EA’s notes. Damage figures are per hit unless the weapon’s damage is described otherwise; the table does not represent the complete weapon change log.

EA also changed first-person weapon muzzle flashes. For the complete weapon-by-weapon values, consult the official notes.
How did armor, helmets, and healing change?
Armor progression and helmets
EVO progression could reach Level 3 (Purple Armor), but no longer earned Red Armor. The Level 3 threshold rose to 1,700 EVO from 1,350. Red Armor could instead be obtained through the Mythic Armor Upgrade Helmet, which set armor to 125 regardless of its level. The Gold Armor Upgrade Helmet set armor to 100 and doubled the healing output of Cells and Syringes.
