Apex Legends: Prodigy was Season 25, which launched in May 2025. Its headline additions were Sparrow, a new Recon Legend; changes to the Bocek Compound Bow; the staged return of Arenas; and updates to Ranked placement and matchmaking. Prodigy is a past season, not a description of the current game.
What was new in Apex Legends: Prodigy?
Electronic Arts’ Prodigy patch notes, published May 5, 2025, detail the season’s launch changes. The main gameplay additions were a new Legend, weapon and loot-pool adjustments, returning Arenas modes, and season-specific Ranked changes. EA’s Prodigy season overview also highlighted Sparrow, the Bocek, and Arenas.

Those details describe what EA announced for Season 25. They should not be read as confirmation that the modes or Ranked systems remain available now: EA’s seasons and updates information covers later seasons, including one starting in 2026.
Who was Sparrow, the new Legend?
Sparrow joined the roster as a Recon Legend. EA’s patch notes described him as a mobile archer whose abilities support movement, scouting, and area control.

The patch notes also listed upgrades, including options for additional Tactical charges or traps and a speed boost when running toward a marked enemy. These are the abilities and upgrades documented for Prodigy; the notes do not establish their current status.
How did the Bocek and weapon rotation change?
EA returned the Bocek Compound Bow and Havoc to floor loot, while the Triple Take moved into the Care Package. The Bocek also gained an explosive-arrow mechanic: players could load it with frag grenades and energize it to make explosive arrows. These were in-game weapon changes, not information about a physical bow product.

How did Arenas return?
At Prodigy’s start, Arenas returned as round-based 3v3 combat. Players selected a loadout at the start of each round. EA announced a refresh for May 20, 2025, focused on combat and firepower, and also previewed a later 1v1 variant called Arenas: Duels. The announcements describe the season’s rollout, not present-day mode availability.
What changed in Ranked and matchmaking?
For Prodigy, EA said initial Ranked tier and division would be based on a player’s tracked skill rather than their end-of-season Ranked Points (RP). If a Ranked skill value was unavailable, the system would use the player’s Unranked Trios skill value. EA also described matchmaking that could merge players into higher-population regions where possible and use skill values in Ranked. Higher-skilled players might wait longer for closer matches.

These are season-specific rules from the 2025 patch notes, not confirmation of how Ranked currently works.
