“Internal error has occurred” is a generic Arma Reforger session message, not a diagnosis. It can appear during multiplayer connection problems, and a server changing to a scenario on a different world can also trigger it during automatic reconnection. The wording alone does not show whether the cause is your game, connection, BattlEye, a mod, or the server.
What does “Session error. Internal error has occurred” mean?
It means the game encountered a problem in the session, but the message does not identify the underlying cause. An official Feedback Tracker report and a Steam Community player report use similar wording in multiplayer failure contexts. Neither establishes a single cause that applies to every player.
Pay attention to when it appears: while joining a server, after playing for a while, or immediately after a server changes scenario. Those details—and any accompanying kick or session code—make the report more useful. A community report involving a BattlEye client-not-responding code illustrates why the code matters: it may point to a more specific symptom than the generic dialog does.
First, work out whether it is tied to one server or more than one
Comparing sessions is a way to gather evidence, not a definitive test. If the error occurs on one server, its scenario rotation, mods, or current status are worth asking the administrator about. If it happens across multiple servers, record the same details and look for local game, BattlEye, or connection symptoms. The error text alone cannot confirm either a server-side or client-side cause.

Try these checks in order
- Record the exact message and context. Note the full wording, any kick/session code, your platform, what you were doing immediately beforehand, and whether you were joining, reconnecting, or already playing.
- Retry and compare. Try another session or server and note whether the same error occurs. A difference can help narrow what to ask about, but it does not prove the cause.
- Check for a scenario or world transition. If the error appears as a server changes scenario, ask its administrator whether the rotation changed to a scenario on a different world. The official Workshop listing for Map Rotation describes a setup in which that transition can disconnect players and automatically reconnect them, with the generic internal-error dialog appearing during the process. The listing identifies version 1.8.0.13 and was modified September 9, 2026; it documents this particular behavior, not all internal errors.
- For a PC error accompanied by BattlEye or connection symptoms, check the related basics. Make sure the game and BattlEye are up to date, and check whether your firewall, security software, or network configuration is interfering with communication. A Bohemia Interactive forum discussion from 2023 mentions BattlEye service status, firewall/router handling, connection stability, and VPN or proxy conflicts as things players considered. It is historical community advice, not an official current fix; the original player said early attempts had not resolved the issue. Avoid broadly disabling security protections or changing router ports without a verified reason.
- If it persists, preserve useful evidence. Save a screenshot and any relevant logs, and include the exact error, code, platform, and circumstances when contacting the current official support or feedback channel. The available tracker record shows that a report was reviewed, but does not establish today’s submission procedure.
Has Bohemia Interactive confirmed a general fix?
No general fix or root cause is established by the cited tracker record. Bohemia Interactive’s Feedback Tracker entry T188864 was created January 30, 2025 and moved from New to Reviewed on January 31. Staff replied, “Thank you for the report. This is being looked into.” The record does not show a confirmed resolution, so it should not be read as proof that the issue is fixed—or that every player seeing the message has the same issue.
