Its distinguishing pressure is that enemies grow stronger the longer you remain in a province, so choosing where to explore—and when to move on—is part of building a successful run.
What is Arcanium: Rise of Akhan?
Released on Steam on December 8, 2020, Arcanium: Rise of Akhan was developed by Supercombo, Inc. and published by Rogue Games, Inc. Steam describes it as an “Open-world, Strategy Card Adventure” combining roguelite exploration and deckbuilding. Rogue Games likewise presents it as a roguelike/deckbuilder hybrid, with hand-drawn visuals.
It is a single-player game. Rather than controlling one character through a chain of card fights, you direct a party of three heroes across a procedural 3D world, adapting their abilities and equipment as the run unfolds. The objective described on Steam is to save the world of Arzu from corruption.
How do the party and card battles work?
Each hero has individual abilities, an ultimate ability, equipment, and upgrades. Their starting ability decks are tied to six classes, and you can combine skills across the three-person party as you develop a run. The tactical challenge is coordinating those characters rather than relying on a single deck and combatant.

Positioning matters: heroes can be swapped during battle, letting a sturdier character take the front and shield a more vulnerable ally. That makes party composition and the timing of a swap relevant to how you manage incoming damage.
Between battles, you can edit decks and equipment. Runs may add cards, artifacts, abilities that cross between characters, equipment, and consumables, giving you ways to adjust the party to what you find. The combination of three distinct heroes and their changing loadouts is a useful point of comparison with deckbuilders centered on one character.

Why does the overworld affect combat?
Each run takes place across a procedural map where you choose routes through provinces. Exploration is not simply a matter of clearing every available location: the game says enemies become harder the longer your party stays in a province, and a Threat meter reinforces the cost of lingering.
In practice, the map connects a strategic decision to the next battle. Detours may offer opportunities to prepare or find useful items, but spending too long in an area raises the pressure. The game therefore asks you to weigh further exploration against moving on before the local danger escalates.

Is Arcanium: Rise of Akhan a good fit for you?
It is worth considering if you enjoy building combinations across multiple characters, tactical turn-based combat, and making route decisions that affect the difficulty of a run. Its particular mix is three-hero coordination, hero positioning, a procedural overworld with rising Threat pressure, and equipment and party customization between fights.
If you prefer a deckbuilder focused on a single character or a sequence of battles without an exploration layer, those are meaningful differences to weigh. The game’s design description establishes its systems, but does not by itself establish how its quality compares with other games in the genre.

Steam Deck and PC requirements
Steam marks Arcanium: Rise of Akhan as Steam Deck Verified. That is the store’s compatibility designation; it does not specify every player’s preferred controller setup or guarantee identical results across hardware configurations.
Steam lists these minimum PC requirements:
- Operating system: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10.
- Processor: 2.4 GHz.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM.
- Graphics: 512 MB video memory and OpenGL 2.0 support.
- Storage: 3 GB available space.
There is an important platform distinction: Steam separately states that its client supports Windows 10 and later beginning January 1, 2024. The game listing’s older Windows minimums are not a statement that the current Steam client runs on every operating system named there.
