The best Sims 4 CAS mods depend on what you want to change: the Create a Sim screen’s background, the selectable hair and clothing, makeup and skin details, or the tools used to adjust a Sim’s shape. “Mods” is often used as a broad search term, but CAS custom content can mean either added assets or changes to how CAS looks. Here are useful ways to find options, plus what to check before downloading.
What counts as a Sims 4 CAS mod?
Create a Sim (CAS) content can add selectable items for Sims or alter the CAS screen itself. Those are different kinds of downloads, so start by identifying what you want to change rather than choosing a file based only on the word “mod.”

- CAS backgrounds and presentation: Change the backdrop or room shown while creating a Sim. Examples named in a July 23, 2025 PC Gamer article include Pure Love Custom CAS Background by Simsiboy, Old School CAS Room, and Simsi45’s Sims 2 CAS Background Replacement. These are examples of screen changes, not a verified current-patch ranking.
- Selectable CAS assets: Custom hair, clothing, makeup, skin details, and other items add options to a Sim’s appearance. The exact assets and supported categories depend on the individual download.
- Sliders and other adjustment tools: A CAS slider changes the controls available for shaping a Sim. Check the creator’s page for supported categories and any dependencies rather than assuming every slider works for every Sim or game version.
For a browsing starting point, CurseForge’s Sims 4 catalog includes a Create a Sim category. A category listing helps you discover content; it does not by itself confirm that a particular file is compatible with your installation.
How to choose CAS content that fits
There is no current, evidence-backed “best” ranking across all CAS mods here, and the named background examples have not been certified against the latest patch. Compare each download using the information on its current creator page:

- Shape Your Sim’s Childhood – The decisions you make influence how your Sim parents and leave a lasting impact on their child’s future. Each choice shapes their personality, affects their traits, influences their family relationships, and guides their path into adulthood.
- Gather your Sim’s family to participate in new activities and spend quality time with each other. Sims of all ages can work together to complete a variety of school projects, express their creativity using construction blocks, or volunteer their time for good.
- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
- What it changes: Confirm whether the file is a background replacement, a selectable asset, a slider, or another kind of CAS change.
- Intended use and supported Sims: Look for stated visual style and support for age, frame, or CAS category. Do not infer support where the creator does not specify it.
- Requirements: Check for required packs, other custom content, or dependencies, and read the creator’s installation steps.
- Compatibility and maintenance: Check the last update and any game-version notes. Compatibility and ongoing maintenance are per-download questions; a listing or older recommendation does not guarantee that a file works after a game update.
- Creator and download details: Prefer pages that clearly identify the creator and explain what the file does and requires. A listing is not an EA endorsement.
How to install CAS custom content on PC
For PC, CurseForge’s installation guidance describes enabling custom content and mods, extracting zipped files, and putting the extracted files in the game’s Mods folder. Follow the current instructions for the particular download and your setup.
- Read the creator’s installation instructions and note any dependencies or version requirements.
- Enable custom content and mods in the game’s settings, following the current PC installation guide.
- If the download is zipped, extract its contents before installation.
- Place the extracted files in the game’s Mods folder as directed by the guide or creator.
- After a game update, check the relevant settings and the download’s compatibility notes before troubleshooting or reinstalling.

What EA does—and does not—endorse
EA’s Sims 4 Mods Policy states: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” EA also says creators may identify a mod as being for The Sims 4 or for a specific Expansion Pack; that does not mean EA has verified or approved the download.
EA’s Maker Program is a separate publishing route for approved creators to make game-ready Create-a-Sim or Build/Buy content using official tools. It is useful context about creator publishing, not a general recommendation of community mods or ordinary third-party downloads.
