Ubisoft released it on March 20, 2025, and announced on June 16, 2026 that its final content update was available.
What is Assassin’s Creed Shadows about?
The game tells the intertwined stories of Naoe, “an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province,” and Yasuke, “the powerful African samurai of historical legend,” as described by Ubisoft’s official game page. Its feudal-Japan setting frames two contrasting approaches to action: Naoe emphasizes stealth and agility, while Yasuke is presented as a force in direct combat.
Can you play as both Naoe and Yasuke?
Yes. Both are playable protagonists. The contrast between them is central to the game: choose Naoe for a shinobi’s stealth-oriented approach or Yasuke for samurai-style battlefield dominance. Ubisoft’s page establishes those broad roles; it does not prescribe a single play style for every encounter.
When did Assassin’s Creed Shadows come out?
Ubisoft lists March 20, 2025 as the release date on its Ubisoft Store listing.

Ubisoft’s current game page lists the following platforms and access routes. Availability and storefront details can vary by region.
- Consoles: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
- Windows PC: Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
- Mac: Macs with Apple silicon through the Mac App Store.
- Subscription and cloud: Ubisoft+ and Amazon Luna.
Ubisoft announced the Nintendo Switch 2 release for December 2, 2025 and said cross-progression works through Ubisoft Connect. The platform announcement also forecast that the Claws of Awaji expansion would arrive “later in 2026”; that earlier forecast does not establish its present availability. For digital PC content purchased through Ubisoft’s store, Ubisoft says a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect are required. Check the listing for the specific storefront and platform before buying.
Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows still getting updates?
No further content updates are planned according to Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 announcement: the update released that day was described as the game’s final update. It adds a new story arc and the Domains challenge feature at no additional charge, and Ubisoft says it wraps up Naoe and Yasuke’s story. Read Ubisoft News’ final-update announcement.
