Winter Wonder was a free festive add-on for Astro Bot on PS5, scheduled to arrive on December 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. PT. It adds a seasonal level and special bots, but players must own the full game and complete its main adventure before the level appears.
What is Astro Bot’s Winter Wonder update?
Team Asobi announced Winter Wonder as a new festive level for Astro Bot. The announcement described shiny presents, jingle bells and new special bots to add to your crew. It was presented as a seasonal celebration for children and adults, rather than a punishing challenge. Team Asobi’s announcement was published on December 11, 2024 and scheduled the update for the following day at 8:00 p.m. PT.

Is Winter Wonder free?
Yes. Team Asobi described Winter Wonder as free additional content. That applies to the update, not to the base game: PlayStation describes Astro Bot as a standalone, full-sized PS5 adventure. PlayStation’s game page identifies it as a PS5 exclusive.
What do you need to play it?
The announcement lists the game, an internet connection and completion of the main adventure as requirements for Winter Wonder to appear.

- An internet connection: The announcement says one is required for the update.
- Main-game completion: Finish the main game before expecting the add-on to appear.
The announcement does not specify whether an online subscription is needed. It also does not require a special controller or edition. The standard PS5 game is the relevant requirement.
How Winter Wonder fits into Astro Bot’s other updates
Winter Wonder was the December 2024 seasonal add-on. It is separate from the five free Vicious Void Galaxy levels Team Asobi announced in February 2025, which were released weekly from February 13 through March 13 and each included a Special Bot and Time Attack mode. The later announcement concerns those additional levels, not Winter Wonder.

Is a special Astro Bot controller required?
No special edition controller is listed as a requirement for Winter Wonder. Sony’s launch announcement highlighted Astro Bot’s use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, and also announced an Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller. Team Asobi lists Astro Bot as a one-player PS5 action game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on September 6, 2024, and is rated ESRB Everyone 10+ and PEGI 7. The official game page provides the platform and product details.
