First, identify which Augur you are fighting

Prepare for the base Augur fight
Check the expedition weakness and weapon options
Bandai Namco advises checking the Nightlord’s weakness on the expedition profile and looking for a weapon with that element before Day 3. Relics can modify a starting weapon’s elemental skill or add a status ailment, so treat them as a way to adapt your loadout rather than a required Augur-specific item. Bandai Namco Europe’s advanced tips also emphasize learning how each Nightfarer contributes to team synergy.

For base Augur, GameSpot identifies lightning as a notable weakness and recommends ranged attackers, particularly Ironeye. Ironeye-centered teams can pair that ranged damage with Recluse, Raider, or Wylder; these are options, not a universally best composition. Melee Nightfarers can help clear nearby tentacles and get in close to interrupt the sleep charge, but Maris’s distance can make sustained melee damage harder. GameSpot’s base Augur guide
Agree on roles before the fight
- Choose who will lead the attack when Maris begins charging the arena-wide sleep move.
- Have ranged players maintain damage while watching for allies who need revival.
- Keep a teammate free to move toward a downed player rather than having everyone chase damage.
This division is a practical team plan based on the fight’s hazards and Nightreign’s revival rules. Bandai Namco says a near-death Nightfarer can be revived by repeated attacks before the gauge expires; bows and crossbows can make that rescue possible from farther away. Base Augur attacks and counters
The following move responses are reported by GameSpot’s June 5, 2025 guide to the base Augur encounter. GameSpot
Tracking jellyfish-like blobs
The blobs follow a player and explode after a delay. Keep moving, and dodge away as they begin to detonate rather than stopping to attack through the blast.
Ground tentacles
Tentacles emerge across the arena and slam when players approach. Avoid lingering beside them; dodge forward or sideways through the slam. GameSpot also notes that clearing nearby tentacles can open a chance to deal damage.
Water waves and the spinning wave
Leave yourself room to read the incoming wave, then dodge through it as it reaches you. Retreating backward can keep you in its path, and a sideways roll may still be caught. When Maris dives and spins to send a larger wave, use the same approach: preserve space, watch the wave, and dodge through its arrival.

Exploding sleep egg
After Augur falls below half health, GameSpot reports that a larger glowing bubble appears. Attack it before it reaches the ground; its explosion deals damage and builds sleep.
Arena-wide sleep charge
When Maris stops moving and begins charging, the whole team should turn to the interrupt. Rush in and attack together, using available Ultimate Arts if needed, before everyone reaches full sleep buildup. If the attack completes, the resulting immobilization leaves the party exposed to follow-up attacks.

How to beat Everdark Sovereign Augur
Do not carry the base-fight plan over unchanged. PC Gamer’s July 31, 2025 guide describes a two-encounter sequence: first defeat regular Maris, then face an enlarged Maris. The first encounter drops a legendary version of the player’s weapon with the Storm Ruler skill; PC Gamer says Storm Ruler is required to damage the enlarged second encounter. PC Gamer
Time Storm Ruler for a clear shot
Charge Storm Ruler while Maris is far away, then release when the boss is low enough for the attack to connect. When Maris is high in the air, light attacks may be more practical than waiting for a charged strike.

At roughly half health, Maris summons orbs that fire lasers. PC Gamer reports that Storm Ruler light attacks can destroy the orbs and stun the boss, opening a damage window. Use Storm Ruler attacks to interrupt the Everdark sleep charge rather than relying only on the base fight’s lightning or Ultimate Art approach.
Survive the enhanced patterns
- Spinning charge: The Everdark version hits harder, so prioritize avoiding its path over squeezing in an attack.
- Ground lasers and explosions: Watch the attack sequence and move out of threatened areas before the explosions.
- Exploding projectiles: Projectiles explode after landing; keep repositioning instead of standing where they fall.
- High-flying projectile patterns: Maris can be difficult to hit while airborne. Focus on survival and positioning until a safer damage opportunity appears.
Revive teammates without losing control of the fight
Nightreign’s official guidance says to revive a near-death ally by attacking repeatedly before the gauge expires; bows and crossbows can reach them from farther away. When someone goes down during Augur, one teammate should handle the revival while the others keep clear of tracking hazards and prepare to interrupt the next sleep charge. If a later game update changes Augur’s behavior, follow the encounter cues in your current version rather than assuming those older guide details are unchanged.
