From the Ashes gives Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora a new entry point: a focused story about So’lek, plus the option to play in third person. Those changes may make Pandora more inviting if the original game’s perspective or sprawling adventure kept you at a distance. They don’t prove the expansion will click for every player, but they give returning and new players a clear reason to look again.
What changes the feel of Pandora?
The most tangible shift is perspective. Ubisoft announced that a free update dated December 5, 2025 would add third-person gameplay and New Game+ to the base game, and said From the Ashes would also be playable in third person. PC Gamer’s February 26, 2026 article confirms the game has a third-person mode, though it does not provide a detailed analysis of how the mode works across the expansion.

That matters because a change in viewpoint can alter how a first-person adventure feels to inhabit. If seeing your character and their movement in the world is part of what you want from a Pandora game, third person is now an option rather than a reason to skip it. It is a change in how you can play, not evidence that the expansion changes every part of the original game’s design.
New Game+ is another addition to the base game, not the same thing as the expansion’s new story. Ubisoft announced both features in the same free update; its announcement does not establish further details about New Game+ here.

What is From the Ashes about?
From the Ashes is a story expansion for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, set in the Western Frontier after the main game. It centers on So’lek, who awakens after an ambush by the RDA and the Ash clan scatters his Sarentu family. Ubisoft describes the story as one of vengeance and survival. That tighter character focus offers a different way into Pandora than simply treating the add-on as more of the base game’s existing journey.
The expansion is associated with the film Avatar: Fire and Ash. The official description and launch information are on Avatar’s From the Ashes page.

Do you need the base game?
Ubisoft sells From the Ashes as an expansion, so check that you have access to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora before buying the standalone add-on. The publisher also offers a From the Ashes Edition that includes the base game and expansion, along with bonus banshee color patterns inspired by Pandora – The World of Avatar. If you already own the base game, compare the expansion listing with your regional store’s edition contents before checkout.
Ubisoft’s October 28, 2025 announcement also described a Complete Edition and listed its contents. Its quoted $59.99 price was the price at announcement time, not a current price; check the store in your region for today’s price and availability. The announcement is available from Ubisoft.

Where can you play it, and is it digital?
The official Avatar page lists a December 19, 2025 launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna, and PC, and says the expansion is included with Ubisoft+ Premium. Store availability and subscription terms can vary by region and change over time, so confirm the current listing before purchase.
The Ubisoft Store UK listing identifies its PC, PS5, and Xbox versions as digital. For PC, that listing requires Ubisoft Connect and a Ubisoft account. What to expect on PC
PC Gamer editor Robert Jones praised the base game’s visuals and cautioned that its PC-exclusive “Unobtanium” maximum-graphics mode demands powerful hardware. His February 2026 account describes his individual PC setup, including mods; it is not a general performance benchmark and is not a review of From the Ashes. Treat it as a reason to check your PC against the game’s current requirements, not a guarantee of how the expansion will run on your machine. Read his account at PC Gamer.
Who might find this is their way in?
- You wanted a different viewpoint: the third-person option gives you another way to experience the base game and expansion.
- You want a character-led story: So’lek’s search for his scattered family gives the add-on a defined personal conflict.
- You haven’t bought the base game: compare the standalone expansion with the edition that bundles the base game and add-on, and verify the current regional price and contents.
- You’re choosing PC: distinguish an editor’s demanding, modded visual setup from a reliable prediction of performance on your own hardware.
These are reasons the expansion could make Pandora more appealing; they are not a substitute for a firsthand verdict on whether its story or gameplay will work for you.
