The best multiplayer browser game depends on your group: choose Codenames Online or Gartic Phone for a conversation-led session, and consider Agar.io or Krunker.io when you want direct competition. The first two have official pages documenting how to get started; details for the action-game options are less firmly established here.
Quick picks: which browser game fits your group?
| Game | Best for | Basic format | What is documented |
|---|---|---|---|
| Codenames Online | A larger group that enjoys team clues and wordplay | Teams use a clue-giver’s hints to identify their words | The official page describes a free browser version with no account or download required; rooms support up to 64 players, divided into teams of up to 32. |
| Gartic Phone | A group that wants a chatty, unpredictable party game | Write a sentence, draw one you receive, then describe or guess a drawing | The official instructions recommend joining a voice call. Specific room limits are not established here. |
| Agar.io | Players looking for a competitive arena game | Grow by collecting dots and try to eat other players while avoiding larger cells | This gameplay description is reported by PC Gamer’s browser-game list. Current access, account requirements and performance are not established here. |
| Krunker.io | Players looking for a browser-based shooter | First-person shooter | It appears as an FPS option in a 2026 browser multiplayer roundup. Current modes, matchmaking, account requirements and performance are not verified here. |
| Skribbl.io or Gartic.io | Groups seeking a quick drawing-and-guessing alternative | Drawing and word-guessing games | Both appear in an April 2026 roundup; check their official sites for current room options and limits. |
Choose a game by the kind of session you want
For team conversation: Codenames Online
Codenames Online is a good fit when your group would rather discuss clues than compete on reflexes. The official site describes it as a free browser implementation of Codenames and Codenames Duet. It says players do not need an account or a download, and a room can hold up to 64 people, with teams of up to 32. The host can share a room link, while players connect through a separate voice or video service if they want to talk. See the official Codenames Online page.
If you want to play away from screens, the physical Codenames board game is an optional offline counterpart; it is not needed for browser play.
For a playful group call: Gartic Phone
Gartic Phone passes ideas through a sequence of writing, drawing and describing or guessing. The changes between each step are part of the fun, making it a natural choice for friends who want to talk and laugh rather than focus on a score. Its official instructions recommend inviting friends to a voice call, such as Discord or Zoom, alongside the game. Read Gartic Phone’s instructions.

For direct competition: Agar.io and Krunker.io
Agar.io offers a competitive arena premise: collect small dots to grow, try to eat other players, and avoid larger cells, as described by PC Gamer’s April 21, 2026 browser-game list.
Krunker.io is another candidate if your group wants a first-person shooter. It is listed as an FPS in a June 2, 2026 browser multiplayer roundup. That listing alone does not establish which modes are currently available, how matchmaking works, or what account and device requirements apply; check the game itself before organizing a group around it.

How to choose for your group
- Start with group size. For a large gathering, Codenames Online has an official stated capacity of up to 64 players. For the other games listed here, specific room limits are not established.
- Decide whether conversation is part of the game. Codenames Online and Gartic Phone are built around clues, interpretation and shared reactions. Gartic Phone’s instructions specifically point players toward a voice call.
- Match the mood to the format. Pick a drawing or word game for a social session; choose Agar.io or a shooter such as Krunker.io when the group wants direct competition.
- Check setup before inviting everyone. Codenames Online documents no-account, no-download play and link-based rooms. For other options, verify current access, room rules and requirements on the game’s official site.
Getting everyone into the same session
For Codenames Online, the host can create a room and share its link; voice or video chat is handled through a separate service. For Gartic Phone, have the group join a voice call as well as the game, following its official suggestion. These are distinct parts of setup: the game page provides the play space, while the external call provides conversation.
