Find the Buzz Axe by defeating Axemaul at the end of The Toil of Spoiling Vis, an Abandoned Auger Mine in Dominion’s Carcadia District. Complete the main story mission “Shadow of the Mountain” to unlock access to the Auger Mine, then use the nearby Encore Machine to reset the fight and farm Axemaul again.
Where to find the Buzz Axe
The reported source is Axemaul, the boss at the end of The Toil of Spoiling Vis in the Carcadia District of Dominion. Mobalytics identifies the Buzz Axe as a Legendary Daedalus grenade ordnance, not a conventional gun. Mobalytics’ Buzz Axe item page and Nerd’s Chalk name the mine and boss as its farm source.
Unlock the mine and reach Axemaul
- Complete the main story mission “Shadow of the Mountain.” The item guide lists this as the requirement to access the Auger Mine.
- Fast-travel to Carcadia District in Dominion.
- Head east from the fast-travel station to the Auger Mine, also referred to as the Abandoned Auger Mine, and proceed through The Toil of Spoiling Vis to Axemaul. The cited guides do not provide a more precise map coordinate.
Repeat the Axemaul fight
- Defeat Axemaul at the end of the mine and check the loot for the Buzz Axe.
- Use the nearby Encore Machine—also called Moxxi’s Big Encore terminal—to reset the encounter.
- Fight Axemaul again and repeat the reset-and-defeat loop until the item drops.
Gearbox Creative Director Graeme Timmins described the broader feature in a PlayStation Blog article published April 30, 2025: “Farming coveted gear is much more intuitive now that you can replay entire missions or use Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine to fight bosses whenever you’d like.” Read the PlayStation Blog article.
What the Buzz Axe does

Drop rate and what is known
The cited item guides identify Axemaul as the farm source but do not establish a dependable Buzz Axe drop percentage. Treat it as a chance drop rather than expecting a guaranteed drop after a set number of attempts. The available sources also do not verify whether a later game patch changed the item’s drop table or the Encore reset behavior.
