Balatro has 31 achievements on Steam, covering run milestones, wins at higher stakes, score targets, card and collection discovery, challenges, and long-term completion goals. This guide explains the Steam list and practical approaches to its trickier requirements. Console trophy lists may differ: the official FAQ confirms Balatro is available on several consoles, but the sources here do not establish that their trophy counts or conditions match Steam.
How many achievements does Balatro have?
Steam currently lists 31 Balatro achievements. The Steam global achievement page is the reference for the current Steam names and conditions. Balatro is a single-player poker-inspired roguelike deck-builder developed by LocalThunk and published by Playstack, according to its Steam store listing.

The official Balatro FAQ lists Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. That does not confirm that each console has the same achievement or trophy list. The requirements below are specifically for Steam; check the achievement descriptions on your own platform before pursuing a platform-specific platinum or completion target.
What do the achievements ask you to do?
The list mixes one-run objectives with progress that accumulates over many games. Examples below illustrate the kinds of requirements; consult Steam’s listing for all current achievement names and descriptions.
#1 Best Overall
- WILD WEST SHOWDOWN: Experience a tense hidden-role battle as Outlaws target the Sheriff, the Sheriff fights for justice, and the Renegade maneuvers between both sides, creating fast, high-stakes decisions every round.
- UNPREDICTABLE EVENTS: Face sudden twists from High Noon effects that disrupt plans, force gunmen to improvise, and introduce shifting dangers that keep every game suspenseful, dynamic, and highly replayable.
- NEW CHARACTERS & ABILITIES: Explore Dodge City additions that introduce fresh gunmen, unique powers, and tactical interactions, expanding strategic depth and offering new ways to outplay opponents.
- RAISE THE STAKES: Add A Fistful of Cards and other expansions to intensify the action with bold risks, dramatic shootouts, and unexpected turns that keep players guessing until the final bullet is fired.
- FAST, SOCIAL GAMEPLAY: Ideal for families and hobby groups, BANG! delivers quick setup, engaging bluffing, and lively card-driven strategy that brings the Wild West to life for 3–8 players ages 8 and up.
- Reach an Ante: Ante Up! requires reaching Ante 4, while Ante Upper! requires reaching Ante 8.
- Win a run: Heads Up requires winning a run. Other wins add constraints, such as You Get What You Get, which requires a win without rerolling the shop.
- Build a particular hand: Royale requires playing a Royal Flush. Retrograde asks you to raise any poker hand to level 10.
- Hit a score in one hand: Score milestones include 10,000, 1,000,000, and 100,000,000 chips.
- Play or discard cards: Career counters include playing at least 2,500 cards and discarding at least 2,500 cards.
- Discover items and complete content: Other goals involve Tarot, Spectral, Planet, and voucher cards, deck-size limits, stake wins, challenges, and extensive Joker collection progress.
Balatro’s FAQ describes a normal run as three rounds per Ante: a small blind, a big blind, and a boss blind. Ante 8 ends with a special boss blind. This structure helps explain why reaching an Ante is not the same as winning a run: the win condition comes after the required final encounter.
How to approach common achievement goals
Reach Ante 4 or Ante 8
Prioritize a deck and Joker setup that can clear blinds consistently rather than spending early resources on a narrow combo. The community guide recommends White Stake, the base difficulty, for ordinary attempts unless the achievement specifically calls for a higher stake. Treat that as general community advice, not a guarantee for every future version or platform.
Win without rerolling the shop
You Get What You Get requires completing a run without using a shop reroll. Plan around what appears naturally: keep a flexible scoring strategy, evaluate the shop’s available Jokers and consumables, and avoid rerolling even when the selection is poor. The condition is about the run’s shop behavior, so a strong build is less useful if it depends on repeatedly fishing for one specific item.

Play a Royal Flush
A Royal Flush is a specific hand requirement, so build toward both its ranks and its suit. The community guide suggests using wild cards, suit-manipulation effects, and card additions or removals to make the combination more likely. Do not assume that merely owning relevant cards completes the achievement: the stated condition is to play the hand.
Get a poker hand to level 10
Retrograde asks for any poker hand to reach level 10. Focus Planet-card use on the same hand type rather than spreading upgrades among several hands. Choose a hand your deck can produce reliably, then maintain a scoring build that lets you survive while you work toward the level target.
Reach the small- and large-deck limits
Tiny Hands requires a deck of 20 or fewer cards. The guide recommends The Hanged Man Tarot and other card-destroying effects such as Immolate; starting with the Abandoned Deck can also help. Big Hands requires a deck of at least 80 cards. Card-adding effects, Spectral cards, packs, and the Magic Trick voucher are suggested ways to grow it. These are opposite deck-building goals, so pursue them in separate runs rather than trying to satisfy both at once.
Rank #3

Discover every Planet card
Three poker hands are hidden and their associated Planet cards will not appear until those hands have been played: Five of a Kind, Flush House, and Flush Five, according to the community guide. If a Planet card seems absent from your collection, check whether you have first played the corresponding hand.
Complete the challenge achievements
The community guide describes Rule Bender as requiring any challenge run and Rule Breaker as requiring every challenge run. That guide reports 20 challenges for version 1.0.0j-FULL; the number is version-specific, so do not treat it as a permanent count. A later reference says seeded runs count for no achievements and challenge runs count only toward these two challenge achievements. Because behavior can vary with platform or version, use the in-game descriptions and platform achievement status as the final check.
What is Completionist++?
Completionist++ is a long-term Joker collection goal. The community guide describes its requirement as earning a Gold Sticker on every Joker: win a Gold Stake run while that Joker is in your inventory. The guide covers a version with 150 Jokers. Both the total and any details may change with updates, so verify the current in-game achievement description before treating that count or condition as definitive.
Rank #4
- 150 Jokers, each with their own unique abilities.
- 15 Decks with distinct modifiers to choose from for each run.
- 5 potential variants of each Joker which add further abilities.
- 22 Tarot cards variants that can enhance your regular playing cards.
- 11 Planet cards that help level up your possible poker hands.
This is a substantially different kind of task from reaching a score threshold in one hand. It requires repeated high-stake wins while tracking which Jokers have earned the required sticker. Keep a record of sticker progress and prioritize Jokers still missing a Gold Sticker when building Gold Stake runs.
Do Steam achievements match console trophies?
Not established by the available platform references. The official FAQ confirms Balatro’s availability on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S, but the Steam list alone cannot establish console trophy counts, a separate platinum trophy, or identical unlock conditions. If your goal is a console platinum, consult the trophy list for that console and edition rather than assuming the 31 Steam entries apply.
