There is no verified, universally best Paladin build in Solasta II. Choose Oath of Judgement for a more offensive frontline role built around force damage and restraint; choose Oath of Liberation for enemy disruption and protection for nearby allies. The oath descriptions support that distinction, but they do not establish a tested damage or win-rate ranking.

Which Paladin oath should you choose?

Build direction Best fit What its features offer Important limitation
Oath of Judgement Players seeking offensive pressure and control from the frontline Weight of Justice can deal force damage and restrain a target; the oath’s level-7 aura supports party damage. A March 24, 2026 guide calls Judgement its top Paladin choice for pure damage, but that is the guide author’s opinion, not a measured comparison. Exact current-patch damage optimization, feats, and equipment are not established. Smite and Lay on Hands also compete for the Paladin’s Bonus Action.
Oath of Liberation Players whose party benefits from disrupting enemies and protecting allies Blinding Castigation, Slip Away, and Aura of Liberation provide control or protection. The guide describes the oath as hindering enemies while supporting allies. Blinding does not affect creatures immune to blindness. Aura of Liberation is listed as a level-7 feature, so it depends on reaching that progression point.

These are role-based recommendations, not a universal ranking. Pick Judgement if you want to press an offensive advantage and restrain a target; pick Liberation if disruption and defensive support better serve your party.

How the Paladin’s actions shape a build

Tactical Adventures says Divine Smite became a Paladin-only spell that uses a Bonus Action under the 2024 rules update. Lay on Hands also uses a Bonus Action. That means a turn can involve a choice: spend the bonus action on a smite, use it to heal, or reserve it for another feature that needs it. Do not treat smiting as an automatic, action-free addition to every weapon hit. Tactical Adventures explains the change in Dev Update #21.

The Paladin’s broader role is a durable frontline fighter with divine magic, healing, condition removal, and Aura of Protection, which improves party saving throws. The trade-off is limited mobility and range, as Tactical Adventures noted in its 2025 class spotlight. Plan positioning so the Paladin can contribute in melee and keep allies within useful support range; do not assume the class can easily cover distant threats. Read the developer’s Paladin class spotlight.

What to prioritize when shaping your character

The available build material is more reliable for explaining oath roles than for prescribing an exact character sheet. A March 24, 2026 class overview lists martial weapons, heavy armor and shields, two chosen skills, Divine Sense, and a healing pool with Lay on Hands. It also lists Defense, Dueling, Great Weapon Fighting, and Protection as level-2 Fighting Style choices; channel-divinity actions at level 3; a feat or ability increase at level 4; Extra Attack at level 5; and Aura of Protection at level 6. These are guide-reported details and should be checked against the current game before treating them as definitive.

  • Start with party role. Select Judgement for a more aggressive, restraining approach or Liberation for control and ally protection.
  • Think about bonus-action competition. Decide which rounds are most likely to call for Divine Smite, Lay on Hands, or another bonus-action feature.
  • Choose a Fighting Style to match your preferred equipment and role. The March 2026 overview lists Defense, Dueling, Great Weapon Fighting, and Protection; confirm the available choices in your current game.
  • Build around positioning. Paladins support a party from the frontline, but the developer describes their mobility and range options as limited.

The reviewed material does not establish the best ability-score allocation, feat sequence, spell list, or equipment set for the current patch. Treat detailed prescriptions from older guides as provisional rather than best-in-slot advice.

How current are these recommendations?

The official Solasta II site displayed Hotfix #3, v0.4.4.114967, dated October 1, 2026, as its latest update when checked. It also listed Early Access Update 1 as released; the studio’s August 24, 2026 announcement describes additions including Warlock, online co-op, 30 World Events, and customization options. The available official material does not establish a later Paladin-specific change.

The Judgement and Liberation build guides date to March 24, 2026, and identify their information as work in progress. They predate the October hotfix, so verify exact feats, spells, ability scores, and equipment against the version you are playing. The reviewed sources provide mechanics and recommendations, but no comparative gameplay tests or published damage, win-rate, or other build-performance statistics.
