You can change a standard Nintendo Switch Online Individual membership to a standard Family membership through Nintendo eShop on the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo discounts the Family plan according to your remaining Individual membership time, then removes that time when the purchase completes and starts a new 12-month Family membership.
How to change from Individual to Family
- On your Nintendo Switch, open Nintendo eShop and select the Nintendo Account that has the Individual membership.
- Choose Nintendo Switch Online from the left menu.
- Select Check/Change Membership to see the available plans and prices.
- Choose the standard 12-month Family plan. Review the regular price and the discounted amount shown at checkout, then complete the purchase if the terms suit you.
Menu labels and prices may vary by region or change over time, so use the amount displayed in your own eShop before confirming.
What happens to your remaining Individual time?
The remaining time becomes a discount on the Family membership; it is not added to the new Family term. Nintendo says that, for a standard Individual-to-standard-Family change in the United States, the discount is valued at $0.05 USD per remaining day, up to the Family plan’s full price. The eShop displays the regular and discounted prices before you buy. When the purchase completes, the Individual time is removed and your new 12-month Family membership begins. Buying the same membership plan can extend its term, but Nintendo does not combine time from different plans. That is why this change works as a price adjustment rather than an Individual-term rollover. Who the Family membership covers
A Family membership covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts in the purchaser’s Nintendo Account family group. The purchaser does not have to be the group’s administrator. Accounts in the group can use different consoles; simply having several profiles on one Switch does not automatically cover them. Each profile must use a Nintendo Account included in the family group. See Nintendo’s Family membership and family group guidance.
If you are joining someone else’s Family group
Being added to another person’s group is different from buying your own Family membership through the Individual account’s change flow. Your remaining Individual membership time is not added to the other person’s Family term, and the memberships’ time is not combined. Check the auto-renewal setting on your Individual membership if you are switching to someone else’s coverage.

Use the change flow, not a different-plan code
If you have an active Individual membership, use Check/Change Membership in eShop to see the applicable discount. Nintendo warns that redeeming a code for a different membership plan may result in an error or cause memberships to run concurrently instead of applying the plan-change discount. A code is not a reliable workaround for the discounted change process.

The standard Family plan is available in 12-month increments. If you are considering a Family Expansion Pack plan instead, compare its benefits and the discount displayed for your region: Nintendo says a standard Individual membership can be changed to an Expansion Pack Family plan, but the plan and discount differ from the standard Family option.
