Yes. Minecraft’s documented way to move a Bedrock Edition world from Xbox to Nintendo Switch is to upload it to a Minecraft Realm, then download it on Switch using the same Microsoft account. You need an active Realms trial or paid subscription, and the Switch receives a local copy rather than replacing the Xbox original.

What you need before transferring

  • A Bedrock Edition world on Xbox. Minecraft’s documented transfer steps are for Bedrock Edition, not a Java Edition world. Minecraft’s transfer instructions cover this route.
  • Realms access. You need an active Realms trial or paid subscription to upload and retrieve the world. Minecraft’s help page does not establish a price, trial length, or region-specific eligibility.
  • Updated games and the same Microsoft account. Update Minecraft on Xbox and Switch to the latest version available to each device, and use the Microsoft account associated with the Realm when signing in on Switch.
  • An available Realm slot, or a slot you are willing to replace. Uploading into a slot already holding a world replaces the active world in that slot, so check its contents before confirming.

How to move the world with Minecraft Realms

  1. On Xbox, open Minecraft and go to Play. Open the Realms controls and choose a Realm and world slot. Use the option to upload the Xbox world to that slot. If the slot is occupied, the game offers a replace operation; confirm only if you intend to overwrite the world currently in that slot. The exact menu labels can vary by game version, so follow the wording shown on your screen. Minecraft Help describes the upload process.
  2. On Nintendo Switch, sign in to Minecraft with the same Microsoft account. Open Play, enter the Realm, and select the slot containing the uploaded world.
  3. Download the world to Switch. Choose the download option for that Realm world. Minecraft says the downloaded world appears as a local world in the Worlds list, with “- Copy” added to its name; you can rename it.
  4. Open and check the Switch copy before changing anything else. Confirm that the world loads and that the expected build and player progress are present. Keep the Xbox original until you have checked the destination copy.

Which option does what?

Option Documented purpose Transfer to Switch? Subscription or result
Minecraft Realms Upload and access a Bedrock world across devices. Yes. Minecraft documents this as its cross-device route. Requires an active trial or paid Realms subscription; download creates a local copy on Switch.
Xbox cloud saves Back up and restore or sync Xbox saves associated with a Microsoft account. The cited Xbox cloud-save guidance does not describe a direct Xbox-cloud-to-Switch transfer. Not the documented method for moving this world to Switch. Minecraft specifies Realms for this transfer; see Xbox’s cloud-save guidance for its Xbox function.
Nintendo Switch Online Enables online multiplayer on Switch. No. It is not a world-transfer method. Minecraft says Switch players need it for online multiplayer; treat it as a possible access requirement for using a Realm online, separate from the transfer itself. Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements.

Back up the Realm and understand retention

Minecraft provides Realm backups and a download option. Its help page says saves are made at regular intervals, when you select Save & Quit, and when you disconnect. The page also describes retention terms, including that a world can be downloaded within 18 months after a subscription expires and associated backups are deleted 30 days after expiry. These service terms can change; check Minecraft’s current Realms backup and download guidance for the applicable details before relying on a particular retention period.

If the transfer does not work

  • The Realm or world is not visible on Switch: confirm you signed in with the Microsoft account that has access to the Realm, then check the Realm and slot you used on Xbox.
  • The upload or download option is missing: check that both game installations are updated and that the account has an active Realms trial or subscription.
  • The wrong world is in the Realm slot: return to Xbox and verify the selected slot before uploading again. Replacing a populated slot overwrites its active world.
  • You expected Xbox cloud saves to appear on Switch: cloud saves and cross-device transfer are different functions. Use Realms for Minecraft’s documented Xbox-to-Switch process.

Minecraft’s reviewed transfer instructions specify Realms; they do not identify a cable, memory card, or generic accessory as the console-to-console method. That does not establish whether an unofficial workaround exists.
