Yes. Xbox says you can gift subscriptions such as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate through the Xbox Store or Microsoft Store when the listing offers Buy as a gift. If that option is unavailable for the recipient’s region or chosen plan, an Xbox or Microsoft gift card is a flexible alternative they can redeem to their Microsoft account and use toward an Xbox subscription.
Two ways to give someone Game Pass

How to gift a Game Pass subscription
- Open the Xbox Store or Microsoft Store for the recipient’s region and find the Game Pass subscription listing you intend to buy.
- Check whether that listing has Buy as a gift. Xbox’s December 5, 2025 guide describes gifting subscriptions, including Game Pass Ultimate, through the store.
- Select Buy as a gift and follow the checkout and delivery instructions shown by the store.
- Verify the recipient’s region and account details before completing the purchase, and use the store’s displayed delivery information to get the gift to them.
The gift option is not established for every plan, duration, country, or storefront. Check the live listing rather than assuming that a specific subscription can always be gifted.

Using a gift card to pay for Game Pass
If you cannot gift the subscription directly—or would rather let the recipient choose—an Xbox or Microsoft gift card can provide store balance. Microsoft says this balance can be used toward Xbox subscriptions. After redeeming the code, the recipient can use the balance on the Microsoft account they want to use for the subscription.
Gift-card balance is tied to the account after redemption and is subject to supported stores and jurisdictions. Microsoft’s gift-card terms and conditions explain the region restrictions. Check that the card’s currency and region fit the recipient’s account and store before purchasing; for third-party prepaid codes, check the retailer’s region terms too. Which option should you choose?
- Choose a direct subscription gift if you know the plan the recipient wants and their local listing offers Buy as a gift.
- Choose a gift card if you want the recipient to decide which subscription to buy or the store does not offer direct gifting for the desired plan.
