Yes. Sandygast can be shiny in Pokémon GO. A community-maintained shiny list records its release on December 17, 2024, during Holiday Part 1. That confirms the shiny exists in the game, but it does not mean Sandygast is currently available to encounter.
When was shiny Sandygast released?
Bulbapedia’s community-maintained list of Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO records Sandygast’s shiny release as December 17, 2024. This is a secondary-source date, rather than a release date confirmed here by an official Pokémon announcement.
Sandygast itself debuted in Pokémon GO in June 2023. During Water Festival: Beach Week, it appeared as a Field Research encounter and in one-star raids, according to The Pokémon Company’s event announcement. Those were debut-event methods, not proof that either method is available now.
How to check whether Sandygast is available now
Shiny eligibility and encounter availability are separate questions: Sandygast has a shiny form, but its current appearance in the game depends on active events and encounter rotations. Niantic advises players to check official Pokémon GO event updates for which Shiny Pokémon may be encountered and how they are available. Its Shiny Pokémon help page describes possible encounter channels in general, including wild encounters, raids, Research Task rewards, and other rewards; it does not confirm Sandygast is currently available through any of them.

- Check the current official Pokémon GO event announcement for Sandygast.
- Confirm the announcement’s listed encounter method, such as wild spawns, raids, or a research reward.
- Use that method while the event or availability window is active; an old event listing does not establish present availability.
For example, Sandygast was listed among Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild during the 2025 Sunkissed Shores event, but that historical appearance does not establish that it is spawning now. See The Pokémon Company’s event announcement.
What are the odds of finding shiny Sandygast?
No official Sandygast-specific shiny rate is established in the cited guidance. Niantic’s general shiny information explains where shiny encounters can occur but does not give Sandygast odds, so a precise number should not be treated as official or guaranteed.

Can you evolve Sandygast into Palossand?
Yes. Sandygast evolves into Palossand using 50 Sandygast Candy, as stated in the 2023 debut announcement. Bulbapedia’s shiny list separately records a Palossand encounter shiny release on March 3, 2026; that is a secondary-source entry and does not indicate current encounter availability.
