You can share a Mii, but the steps depend on the consoles involved. Nintendo Switch 2 supports QR-code sharing and nearby local wireless transfers; Nintendo 3DS supports QR codes and local wireless. Switch 2 needs a compatible USB camera to scan a QR code, while local wireless does not.
How to share a Mii on Nintendo Switch 2
Switch 2 offers two ways to send a Mii: save and share a QR-code image, or transfer directly between nearby consoles. Use QR codes when the recipient is elsewhere; choose local wireless when both people and systems are together.

Share with a QR-code image
- On the sending Switch 2, open System Settings > Mii > QR Code > Save QR Code, choose the Mii, and save the image to the album.
- Share the saved image. Nintendo says it can be uploaded to the Nintendo Switch App and saved or shared from there.
- On the receiving Switch 2, connect a compatible USB camera. Open System Settings > Mii > QR Code > Scan QR Code, frame the code, and save the Mii when it appears.
Nintendo specifies that scanning requires a compatible USB camera, sold separately, and gives the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera as an example. Showing the QR code on a phone does not replace the camera requirement in Nintendo’s documented Switch 2 scanning process. If you do not have a compatible camera, use local wireless when the consoles can be together. Nintendo’s Switch 2 instructions explain both methods.
Send directly with local wireless
- On both consoles, open System Settings > Mii > Send/Receive Mii Characters.
- Each console searches for nearby users. Both people select one another, then the sender chooses a Mii.
- Press B to end sharing.
This method transfers between nearby Switch 2 consoles and does not require a camera.

Import a Mii saved to an amiibo
If a Mii has already been registered to an amiibo figure, Switch 2 can copy it through Create New Mii > Copy Mii from amiibo. Hold the figure to the NFC touchpoint on the right Joy-Con 2. This imports a Mii stored on the amiibo; it is not a general way to send a Mii directly to another person.
How to share a Mii on Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo documents QR-code and local wireless sharing between 3DS systems. These instructions are for 3DS; do not assume that a 3DS QR code can be scanned into Switch 2, whose documented QR scanning uses a compatible USB camera and Switch 2’s Mii settings.
Send between nearby 3DS systems
Open Mii Maker and choose Send/Receive. One person waits for players while the other searches; once the systems connect, select the Miis to send. Nintendo’s 3DS sharing instructions describe this nearby transfer.

Share a 3DS Mii using a QR code
In Mii Maker, generate a QR code for the Mii. The image is saved to the SD Card; share that image with the other 3DS user, who can scan it in Mii Maker. This is useful for sharing at a distance without arranging a local wireless connection.
StreetPass on 3DS
Nintendo’s 3DS guidance also describes StreetPass as an automatic nearby exchange when the system is powered on or in Sleep Mode, with received Miis savable to Mii Maker. That describes a legacy 3DS feature; the cited guidance does not establish the current availability of related services, so check Nintendo’s current service information before relying on it.
What works between older Nintendo systems?
Nintendo documents a transfer from 3DS to Wii U through Mii Maker. The 3DS Mii must allow copying for the transfer to work; follow Nintendo’s 3DS-to-Wii U transfer steps.

A 3DS Mii cannot be sent to Wii, according to Nintendo’s 3DS sharing guidance. Nintendo separately describes receiving a Mii made on Wii through the Wii Mii Channel. Those are specific directions, not proof that every transfer between Wii, Wii U, and 3DS works both ways.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is a console Mii the same as your Nintendo Account Mii?
No. A Mii stored in a console’s Mii list and the Mii used for a Nintendo Account profile are separate. Nintendo says you can create or change the account Mii in account settings or associate it with a linked Nintendo Network ID. Editing the console Mii later does not automatically update the Nintendo Account Mii, and changing the account Mii does not automatically update the console one. See Nintendo’s account Mii guidance if you meant your profile picture.
